Re: Concernedcitizen The FNM didn't allow the other bidders to make on-site visits. What the hell is that? Further, the other bidders were only given the option to bid on providing additional power to BPL, not building an entire power station and becoming the main supplier of BPL's electrical needs. If that sounds fair to you, I'll buy your car for a nickel.
Re Concernedcitizen I have no problem with them privatizing BEC, so long at it is a fully transparent bidding process and the public is given the chance to buy shares. Unfortunately, the bidding process for the new power plant that will replace BEC was the opposite of transparent and other bidders were sabotaged by not being provided with the full information. The deal was already done, and the other bidders were treated like clowns in a circus.
A hotel is not a building!!!!! Idiot FNMs please note!!!! Like a church is not a building but its congregation, a hotel is its guests. No guests = no hotel. The FNM can buy worthless buildings all day long for exhorbitant prices, but they won't have bought a hotel!!!! That's the problem that must be solved here, not this worthless SOB building. The problem that needs to be solved is nobody wants to go to Freeport, because it's boring and ugly period. You can put a lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig. You can make an idiot a PM and he's still an idiot.
Is there such a thing as a Bahamian statesman? A man or woman that looks out for the interests of the country of the Bahamas, instead of stuffing his own wallet or promoting a pro party, racial or classist ideology? I'm starting to doubt such a thing is possible.
This FNM government is "by far" the most dissapointing political experience I have had to date. I have never seen such "two faced" trickery in my life! I may never vote again. They refuse to do what we put them in power to do: Freedom of Information Act; Term Limits; Campaign Finance Reform; Prosecution of Fraudulent BOB Loans. It appears to me that the FNM has decided to go out in flames. Rather than try to save the Bahamas sinking ship, that we elected them to do, they have decided to further char the remains left by the PLP. If we were a more patriotic country, these "two timers" would be tarred and feathered and beaten out of town as enemies of the state!
I'm tired of hearing about Bacari, as if they have any more right or interest in selling cannabis than anyone else. Everyone wants a piece of the action, get over yourselves. Stop pretending like you're some secret cannabis experts. It's not rocket science!!! Medical marijuana is a no brainer. We don't need Bacari or anyone else to tell us that; it's common sense.
Re: Well_mudda_take_sic is completely right about this being a distraction. When you want to steal something, distract the security guard. My poor Bahamian people, don't you understand by now. This entire shantytown issue was a red herring. They ran interference, and you fell for it completely. They don't give half a damn about the shantytowns. What did they distract you from? They sold BEC. They transferred a priceless monopoly to a foreign company without you even realizing it. They left all the debt behind in the old company for Bahamians to pay for and transferred the monopoly rights to generate power in The Bahamas into eternity to a private company!!! You can bet the MPs will either get equity in the power company or finders fee. Either way, they got away with it free as a bird, and the worthless PRESS didn't even notice!!! Power generation is one of the most sought after prizes for multinational companies, but Bahamians don't even care.
This talk of LNG may likely just be a smoke screen to throw Bahamians off the scent that BEC is being divested of value right in front of their eyes. LNG could be just a small part of the final operation. The real plant will likely be oil based. I have read that a number of high level FNMs own shares in Shell Bahamas (Focol) on Eyewitness News, "The PAC should ask whether the fact that several senior FNM’s have a major stake in Shell Bahamas played a part in the granting of this contract." So, now we know what the FNM has been plotting and wasting all our time on during their first year in office: how to steal BEC without anybody noticing (aka Blue Water). With Shell NA producing all electricity for BPL (their words not mine), they are stripping all value from BEC. Now the question is how they, individually, will profit? Most likely finder's fees of 5-10 million in offshore accounts or, more likely, they will each be given large amounts of equity in the new company formed by Shell NA that owns the new power plant. Either way, buckle up for the ride. Corruption here we come!

They probably resigned because they didn't agree to the FNM selling the BEC monopoly to themselves aka Bluewater 2.0
