Are they citizens, legal status could just mean a work permit, not even residency.
I fail to see how the government is responsible for building homes for residents of a shantytown. Please direct me to which country builds homes for non-citizens- because I will need to move myself to that country ASAP. Furthermore, how can you expect a government to do for foreigners (legal status or not) what they won't do for citizens (legal) of the country,
Fred Smith needs several seats, cause if not for him those shantytowns would have been rebuilt or demolished prior to the hurricane; and 300 odd Haitians wouldn't be unaccounted for. SMDH
"I can see that rebuilding must be according to code,” Mr Smith said yesterday, adding that the government should either help residents rebuild with sanitation and stronger homes or provide alternative property or homes.
Is he on some kind of LSD... the governments job is not to help people build their homes according to the required standard.
Secondly are these even Bahamian citizens or residents, who are these illegals making demands on the government. In what part of the world can you go as a foreigner and make demands of that country's government. SMH- only in The Bahamas.
Not true, if you look at old maps of The Bahamas, Pinewood was actually a part of a ridge that extends all the way to Prospect Ridge. In fact some parts of Pinewood are still elevated and on the ridge.
It was unscrupulous land developers that saw an opportunity to mine for fill that caused Pinewood areas to be so low lying. Some say it was Arawak Homes that did it, some say government, but who knows.
What about the ones who are tortured when held at gunpoint, not sure if you will live or die? What about the mental torture of reliving that experience?
Awww my ... thief and and a thug on the streets robbing innocent people at gunpoint, but now he's in jail with the real thugs he can't handle it. Maybe he should have thought twice before taking a gun and robbing someone.
Kml crying for his mommie like a baby... good for him.
And really Mom "they could have killed your child", what if your child had shot and killed those people he robbed at gunpoint? Where were you then to advise your bad boy son to behave himself?
Perhaps instead of giving out free tshirts maybe MP's can give out free first aid and CPR classes in their respective communities.
It literally would cost them nothing to host free first aid and CPR classes at the local clinics or community centres. At the very least provide people with the ability to potentially help a person bleeding, a child choking, an elderly person suffering a heat stroke, or a person having a heart attack.
A young boy was pulled from waters the other day and according to the article not one bystander on the beach knew how to perform CPR. That's so sad, everyone walking around with the latest gizmo and gadget but can't assist to safe a life.

We know at least half of those that left will not be returning. Better opportunities and cheaper cost of living will make it so.
