I agree with Mr. Myers. My understanding was Shell's previous MOU was to stabilize the power, significantly lower costs while setting BPL on track to be profitable including paying down the legacy debt. Unfortunately, the back door deals have sabotaged what was meant for the benefit of the country by the previous board chaired by Mrs. Osborne. With proper due diligence the engines could have made it until Shell came online. As something this significant including I would assume cleanup and site planning cannot happen overnight.
The damage to this country is stunning. We have not seen the ramifications of the irresponsibility. The lack of knowledge of the management at BPL and the resulting fires here and in the out islands, purchase of engines not meant for this country...its all just shocking....as if intentional?
Bahamians should watch very closely who purchases the RRB's..now that BPL assets are in such bad shape it's a fire sale. Though once the LNG is up and running will become quite lucrative but sadly the Bahamian people will not have ownership...Bahamians will only be paying high interest on these bonds. Would be interesting as well to know who exactly the Beneficial Owners are in the solar deal in Ragged Island...
The CEO is a chemical engineer with limited experience in generation and was fired from GBP his only job in generation. Rollins does not have an engineering degree of any standard...was A BTC technician....neither apparently are recognized by the governing body of Bahamian Engineers...who in their right mind allows these people to remain on their job let alone take the lead in the energy sector of a country...they and the Board are so out of their depth..but Minnis is sorry!!!! He sympathizes...Seriously!!!! No details on the fire..and we all know why....Minnis should have fired Bannister and gave his replacement instructions to fire board and management. The impact to the country and its GDP is immeasurable and because it was all avoidable it is unconscionable and treasonous. I am sorry but the only conclusion you can come to is that there is collusion of sort happening.
What I am suggesting Is to move the corruption aside inclusive of those that are desperately trying to be involved in the bigger energy deal. This is the worst leadership in the company’s history under Heastie and Rollins. How many fires in the last year and the country is in a full on power crisis at the cost of the Bahamian taxpayer. It has never been this bad. At least if previous staff was consulted we may be able to stabilize. Remember Heastie I believed was fired by Grand Bahama Power..it is my understanding he has very limited generation experience..which has now been confirmed. Rollins has none. These are the two leading us down the rabbit hole! #BringBackTheEngineers
The country is in crisis. Heastie/Rollins pushed out the competent engineers! Multiple fires, wasted tax payer money and a country in an energy crisis. Enough! Top management and Board need replacing. Now we see why those previous Directors that were fired were fighting so hard against Heastie/Rollins/Bannister.
Heastie retired the Director of Generation a year ago. The most experience generation engineer the Bahamas has....I hear he said he could do it better..smt! Now look where we are!!!! How many fires later..full on energy crisis!!
My question is why isn't the PM/Minister or Chairman moving Heastie/Rollins aside and bringing back the retired persons who know generation to try and at least stabilize. This heat is terrible especially for the elderly, sick and young children!!!
Makes me wonder what really is happening that motivates the powers in charge to remain silent while the country is in crisis...what actually is the bigger picture here.
Why is the Minister as well doing Immigrations job.... once the Department of Immigration determines that a person can reside and work unrestricted in this country what capacity does the Minister have to discriminate against what he calls foreign nationals. These person most likely support themselves and their families..which is most likely a Bahamian spouse and children. Is this not an example of discrimination against Bahamian women..again. The policy as is..is illegal and Minister knows this and all if he doesn’t then he needs to go back to writing poetry...for a country that needs FDI this is a very dangerous Pandora’s box to open...
The training in theory is a positive move. I heard there were quite a few commercial fishing boats prepared to continue the process of the training of these young persons..like an internship process. However as per usual the Minister has jammed the boats at the last second and now put them in a position to be challenged to include these young persons on the boats. Wasting peoples time and resources!!! He has no depth of understanding the skill and time it takes to become an experienced diver. I heard he sucker punched the Bahamian boat owners terribly!!! Pandering to a few to at the expense of the bigger picture..when you have someone in place that really has no clue..dumb bad...
Dr. Sands need just stay in his lane and focus. His need to gain political traction is backfiring and presenting him as continually ill informed. All the challenges his ministry faces from the out-island clinics closing, PHM, National Health Plan.
If he was concerned about the legality of the situation he would not have commented at all. His comments were calculated despite being incorrect. My question is why did he feel he needed to compromise himself on this issue.
I remember reading an article awhile back when he announced the connection with John Hopkins managing PMH....so where are we now with that or Disney coming in to help with construction in the children's ward? All smoke and mirrors? These are examples of the issues you need to be updating taxpayers on. BPL is a mess..to the point it is treasonous. It does not matter how much deflection unfortunately this present administration tries regarding BPL...damage done.
I watched the episode and I did not hear or interpret from it that Mr. Watson insinuated Mr. Holowesko pressured the previous board to enter into any contract with Fortress or did he say that Mr. Holowesko caused the departure of the previous COO. Mr. Watson should have fact checked but he did the next evening correct and apologize publically.
I have to say I am VERY doubtful that Shell NA sourced and selected the engines that were purchased. I cannot see a company with the financial resources it has advising this..if so why did Shell NA not pay for the engines as agreed initially. Who is paying now for the cleanup up at Clifton? The entire process thus far has been chaotic and costly. Can't see the process being this unorganized if Shell NA had the go ahead to proceed.
BPL needs to release the report on the fire at Clifton....Mr. Holowesko may have a bigger problem as a sitting board member , if as rumoured, the present CEO gave the instruction to start the engine against policy/recommendation of staff which caused the fire. If this is confirmed then the Board as a whole needs to explain why the CEO remains in place..has this then contributed to the ongoing challenges which has created the crisis in the Bahamian energy sector which has proven extremely impactful to the economy?
In the past year power insecurity has become critical. The impact to the GDP is immeasurable. When will the PM step in and dismiss the Minister, Board and Management. These actions are treasonous. Only reason I can think that why they have not been removed is because they need to cover up some level of corruption..just how high it goes remains to be seen. As we all suffer in the heat!!!!
