I believe the original plan prior to the Board firings was Shell would construct the plant and zero cost to the Bahamian tax payers. The infrastructure (pipelines) that would eventually deliver the LNG to say, for example, the cruise ships....BPL would own and receive so many cents per gallon of fuel delivered. The income would be used to assist in improving the financials of BPL and turning it into a cash positive company and off setting the cost of the RRB for the taxpayers. Now..... an IPO for purchase of shares will be offered to those who can afford it. We all know who will purchase those shares. The shareholders will make the money while the Bahamian taxpayer are burdened to pay back the RRB. You just can't make this up....
Look what happens as well to the "whistle blowers" in this country. They are targeted and every attempt is made to destroy their reputation. Most recently with Osborne, Thompson, Dean, Davis and Alston at BPL. Terrible...
Yet we can all rest assure these same persons have their hands all in the cookie jar for the contracts I am sure that have happened as a result of the fire, and of course for the power deals/fuel contracts going forward...it's all so predictable...
I was just wondering the same thing! I wonder if they realize that many persons are aware of who ordered the engine to be started against protocol and against staff advise..that has now caused the Bahamian tax payers millions...
Too further add to all the comments above.. because of the power insecurity created on their watch it will further cause the interest rates on this bond process to be through the roof...
The Bahamian tax payer will get stuck with paying for the very high interest after already paying for these engines, rental units and high salaries...that have all happened under the present leadership.
You would think at some point they would realize how the country views them and just go away...yet here they are...again. No one believes or respects anything any of them have to say.
Spoken by the guy who certainly appears to have his hands in the cookie jar along with his friends..and while he has been in the position of MOW the country has experienced the worst power insecurity in its history... while wasting millions of tax payer money...amazing..we have yet to see the real impact to the GDP...
I believe the National Debt will be higher as I doubt this includes the hit to the GDP from the power insecurity caused by all the chaos at BPL. Millions of tax payer money mishandled....more in debt...and the RRB..if secured...will have such a high interest rate attached.
Please.. Mr. Heastie do not insult the intelligence of the Bahamian people. You have been around for awhile now and only since you resumed oversight of generation have their been multiple fires that have caused unprecedented load shedding that have caused this country to be termed "in a power crisis." Your arrogance is astonishing...and actually embarrassing for the country.
The MOU with Shell would have rectified this for the Bahamian people without any upfront cost but you and many of "your friends" find yourselves I am guessing jammed up in the cookie jar, hence the MOU was altered at huge costs to the taxpayers.
No on one is interested in listening to you or Dr. Moxey. Disgraceful. The leadership at BPL has lost all respect..so just stay quiet. You think persons are distracted with the hurricane challenges? I would suggest you recalibrate...in fact, the international community is watching even closer..you know like the IRS....smt!
Over the last year 7 engines have come off line. This is unprecedented with unprecedented load shedding. We now have two of the three islands that supported the economy devastated by the hurricane. New Providence, the main island supporting what's left of the Bahamian economy cannot provide reliable power. Daily there are three to four hours power outages. Does anyone really think businesses will stay or FDI will come. The amount of money spent each month with these rentals that cannot be passed onto the Bahamian people directly in billing will eventually reflect in the GDP. Yet this administration does nothing...
Please...the Bahamian people cannot take him, Board, Rollins or Heastie seriously as it evident that corruption has contributed to and continues to cause the chaos we are all enduring. Minnis allows the foolishness as he it appears he too is compromised. #disappointedFNM
