I must say just from a observation perspective that even with the resolution of these constitutional amendments, if it ever happens. The fundamental problem we have in the Bahamas is the Ignorance. We have a lot of Ignorant people and even with the passage of laws, on the ground level the enforcement and daily living is still affected by the amount of ignorance in the populations. Even with the best laws on the books, without better education for our people ignorance will prevail.
What do we pay these people for if everything has to result in a referendum, u are voted to represent the people, represent them with good decisions without wasting further resources and time on referendums. Issues of equal rights and immigrations should be handle swiftly because the majority of us all agree on these issues. The problem is obvious and as stated above many voices and conflicting statements but no real leadership from the P.M or Opposition. We have bunch of fools scoring political points but nothing gets done. Where is the gambling bill, freedom of information Act, or the enforcement of the laws as a result of the vote of the last referendum. Which brings up the point why waste time with referendums when results are tossed to the side and the will of the people through voting process is ignored.
CommonSense u nailed it. Our country is in a terrible state & people are so ignorant that they allow politicians like Rollins to distract them from important issues like crime. Or how about him showing the same passion for the passage of the Freedom of Information Act & it becoming law to help reduce corruption. Its easy to pick on gay people in the Bahamas it feeds the ignorance of the masses especially all the sinners sitting up in church. I can say this with great confidence that i've never walked around Nassau in fear of some gay or trans gender person robbing or killing me. But i'm certainly concerned about a bunch of scripture quoting thugs, murderers & adulterers.
State of marriage in the Bahamas: Married men cheating and have kids on the side with sweet heart, or 2 separate households to support. Married woman sleeping around with pastor or young men in the community.. This is epidemic in our culture so gay marriage is the least of our problems. Our men cannot turn down a piece of side for nothing..
Sheeprunner, its a business contract supported by the state. Gay people Sheeprunner supports gay marriage because the seperation of church & state does not allow us to use religious grounds to deny them otherwise it would be discrimination. Its not my business when lawful adults marry other lawful adult. Other than abuse & respect for the law, your marriage to legal adults or your religion in a free society is your business. I think gay people are nuts to want in look @ the state of marriage in this country & our neighbor the U.S.
How about the government get out of marriage. Marriage should be handled between people, their family, and their religion. Stop issuing marriage certificates and that would solve the whole problem. Unless someone is being abused mind your business.
Any qualified new blood with the character and integrity to lead injected into the current system of Bahamian politics will be destroyed by the Hyenas of Bahamian politics or looked at with great suspicion by the multitude of ignorant people that have been brain washed by 4 decades of PLP/FNM lies and corruption. If u refuse to be a part of the corruption or buy into the system of the old gaurd they will destroy your character first with false rumors and lies. These lies could easily be countered with facts but when u have a large segment of the population ignorant or indoctrinated into tribalist party politics its a uphill battle. End result, another 5 years of plp/ fnm dinasaurs running the nation.
Once again here we go with this gay marriage thing again like he's denying them chocolate cake. He's doing them a favor.. Let them suffer like the rest of us I say. Let them deal with annoying spouses and teenage A holes that once they reach this wonderful age only see u as $50.00 and a ride to their friends house or the mall. Try divorce, imagine giving away more than half of everything you worked for plus a generous allowance called alimony every month to sponsor your ex's new life with someone new. Try looking at your spouse who added an extra 90 lbs and refuse to lose it. Gay people I welcome you on board the torture ship called marriage. You are welcomed to the wise grip that use to be attached to my balls.
Martelly has benefited greatly from the dysfunctional system in Haiti & in a few years he'll be living it up in France or some wonderful exiled country after robbing the nation of all that aid money. He is more than insincere he is a major part of the problem. They can stop it today if they wish but why stop a system that allows Haiti to rid itself of many of its social problems. He knows countries will pay to keep Haiti away plus if the voyage is successful millions with flow back into Haiti. Win win situation for him.
Get rid of this money pitt, send your kids to florida for school or somewhere else in the U.S. The government can make a deal with many major colleges in the U.S to provide a in state or reduced cost to Bahamian students. Example Brigham Young University offers a great deal with $5200 tuition, come up with housing and books and u get a great education. The money they spend on this government money pit along with private donations can be used for scholarships for good students from low income areas.
