Really? Your source is a Facebook post and a OAN segment? Don't make me laugh!

Those studies were done In vitro and not In vivo. Any scientist worth their salt wouldn't make a claim like that without doing significant amount of In-vivo (human) studies. Regular household bleach will kill most viruses In-vitro (read the label on that bottle of lysol you have), but you wouldn't recommend family & friends to drink it to kill a virus, or would you?

Birdie, do you ever make a non-political post on here?

Bobsyeruncle says...

Agreed, but the condescending nature of how politicians speak down to the general population, exacerbates the lack of personal responsibility.

Bobsyeruncle says...

This lady has more sense than all the politicians (PLP & FNM) and most of the population. She should be the one giving the National Addresses, not the PM.

Mortality rate might actually be less than 0.5%. Wouldn't one also include the recovered cases (91) as they at one time were also an active case. Eventually the majority of the Active Cases will be moved to the Recovered Cases column, which would then skew the mortality rate formula that you used. In addition, there are probably a whole lot more of asymptomatic cases or people who had very mild symptoms who were never tested and therefore would not be included in the Active Cases data.

So who is good for us? Those who want the economy to open up will find half the population telling them to keep it closed - just look at the comments in this thread. It's a lose/lose situation for any leader irrespective of their party.

Unfortunately, Minnis stepping down, isn't going to fix the problem. Sure, ultimately the buck stops with him, but whoever fills his place is going to face the same problem(s). What we need is a plan that works, the problem is every country in the world is trying to find a plan that works but has so far failed.
Those countries that did well under the first wave of COVID, like New Zealand, South Korea, Australia, Japan, Sweden etc, and subsequently opened their borders, are now experiencing flare ups as they've started opening up. One of the worst hit countries was Spain. Eventually, after many deaths and recorded cases, they managed to get things under control. They recently re-opened their borders to tourists, but are now have major flare ups similar to The Bahamas.
Every leader, in every country, is in a lose/lose situation. Whether they open up or shut down, half the population will be crying for their heads if they go one route and the other half will do the same if they go the other route. Not a time to be the leader of any country IMO

My guess is that they are only testing those that have symptoms, and those that may have been exposed to someone who tested positive - similar to like in the US. Like you said, it should still be more than 28 a day though. Weekends tend to skew data due to delays in reporting.

That's why I used the word "Start". But you're right, it's probably too much of an expectation

Also agree. At some point people have to start using their own common sense. There's no-one in The Bahamas that doesn't know Florida is a Covid hotspot. Sure, Minnis should never have opened the borders, but c'mon, even a D- average population must know that their chances of contracting the virus in FL are high, and would consider the risk too high just for the sake of a trip to Walmart & Costco.
