For this to work, you would a) have to test the whole population simultaneously; b) get the results instantly and simultaneously, and c) immediately make sure every positive person removes themselves to a separate place. Clearly not a feasible option anywhere in the world or universe
You can't compare Italy to The Bahamas. Italy & Spain, yes - EU land borders with free movement across the borders for EU populations, similar cultures, community habits, age demographics etc..
*We have a much more dense population (number of people per square mile) than Italy because most of our population resides on the relatively small island of New Providence.*
Not strictly true. Some Italian cities and towns have a higher population density. Also, in most of the old towns, people live in buildings much smaller than we have in The Bahamas, and often with 3 or 4 generations living in the same small house (probably why a disproportionate number of deaths in Italy have been elderly). Part of Italian culture is for kids, parents & grandparents to live under the same roof. I know this is also the case in some areas of The Bahamas, but it is to a much lesser extent, and the properties are spaced farther apart.
Do the same for road traffic accidents & resulting deaths per country population (or something similar). You will probably come up with a % even lower. However, that doesn't mean you should not take any precautions when driving, does it?
Unfortunately, at the present time, the tests for the virus are not "Point of Use" tests that can be read immediately by the person taking the nasal swab sample. The sample has to be taken to an appropriate diagnostic lab to obtain the results. It's my understanding that there is currently a backlog of samples at most of the labs so there can be a 1-2 week wait to get some results
Dude, you need to start taking this seriously. You would be the first one to complain (after Birdie), if he didn't give regular updates. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't with you
Good idea, but unfortunately there are probably insufficient wealthy Bahamians for this to make a difference. If you add corporate tax (medium to large businesses), second home property tax (Bahamians & overseas residents) to the mix, then maybe it would help
Good ! Let them continue to not present themselves to the healthcare authorities, unless their symptoms become serious. From what I've heard, most people only exhibit mild symptoms, so IMO the best course of action is for them to self isolate to reduce the risk of them passing it on to healthcare workers or other members of the public with underlying health conditions
Like I've said before, it's not practical to test everyone. If you test them once does that mean they shouldn't be tested again in the future? Just because you test negative, doesn't mean to say you can't catch the virus the next day. There just aren't EVER going to be enough test kits in the whole of the world to test every person every few days for the next umpteen weeks. That is why all countries are being selective. Unfortunately most of the symptoms of COVID-19 are identical to the symptoms of a head cold and/or flu. In the Northern Hemisphere we are still in the middle of flu season.
