Name a Bahamian Company that can install a complete solar grid ? There might be a few Bahamians who have the knowledge how to install solar panels on the roof of your house and hook up to an inverter etc., but a whole grid, c'mon. Please enlighten us
Totally agree. I also keep shopping bags in my car (both at home and when I visit The Bahamas). Initially, I found it a major inconvenience when they banned plastic shopping bags where I live. I would forget to take them with me, or forget to put them back in my car after unpacking groceries. Now after unpacking, I hang them on the inside door knob and put them in my car next time I go out. How did our moms ever survive without plastic grocery bags when we were kids? Maybe they had superpowers ?
I've been saying this for years. With successive FNM & PLP governments constantly putting all their eggs (money) in a single basket (Nassau), a single direct hit by a major hurricane will destroy The Bahamas economy.
Supply management 101 teaches you never to be sole sourced, as any kind of major disruption in ones supply chain can have a catastrophic on your business. The same is true for the economy of The Bahamas. It doesn't have to be Freeport as suggested by Mr Smith, but the government should invest in the other islands, rather than 90% in Nassau, so that risk is spread around. Surely Dorian has proven that to them ?.
What length of time are we talking about when it comes to accumulating vacation leave? I thought in most careers you had to use it or lose it when it came to annual vacation (or maybe carry over a small percentage of your previous years allowance).
So do these police officers not have time to take any vacation time in 30 years ? I bet they never miss their lunch time or clocking off time. What about spending quality and fun time with their family ? Or, do they just not take vacation because they know they will get a large payout on retirement ? If so, I doubt that was the original intent of the agreement, and someone has found a loophole to abuse the system. My guess is there was a union involved somewhere, and the original intent was to compensate officers if they were unable to take vacation days because of the demands of the job. And as usual, the beneficiaries have gotten greedy and now want to rape the government coffers (taxpayers).
Something just don't smell right with this agreement.
Although I agree with most of what you are saying, please remember that being surrounded by the ocean, and with the humid climate here, salt is perpetually eating away at the structures etc. in The Bahamas. The rebar and concrete (made from the salty sand) are destined for failure as soon as the concrete is poured.
Ok, I guess my comment was taken out of context, and in hindsight I should have perhaps chosen different words. I didn't mean it to imply that Haitian applicants are discriminated against, or have any less right to get citizenship. I meant it to imply that my son is not stateless and is not missing his proof of birth here in The Bahamas, which appears to be the case with many Haitians living, born or working in The Bahamas.

This is about the only thing I agree with him on. My son applied for his citizenship when he turned 18. He flew over to Freeport, had his interview (at which he excelled, according to the immigration person), and we haven't heard anything since. He turns 26 next month !! And no, we are not Haitian. Why should people born in The Bahamas have to wait so long to get their citizenship application reviewed ? My son would be classed as illegal even though he did everything by the law book. aaaggghhhhh !!!!!
CO2 is NOT plant food, Plants need CO2, Sunlight and Water to produce glucose which is their food. The whole process of photosynthesis is very delicate, and is extremely important to our environment. Yes, plants, trees etc absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, which obviously reduces the total amount of greenhouse gases. However, the more humans there are on this planet, means more CO2 is being produced, which also means we need more plants and trees to maintain the equilibrium in the atmosphere. The last I checked the population was increasing and the amount of plants & trees was decreasing (de-forestation, expanding cities), so therefore the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is increasing as the plants can't be forced to absorb anymore CO2.
