I wouldn't rule out a Chinese bailout. Although everything Mr. Leonard says is true, the size of the Bahamian economy and it's strategic location make it ripe for the kind of manipulation we have seen elsewhere. Venezuela has avoided default through Chinese rescue loans over the past couple of years and the same could happen here to keep us out of junk bond status. In fact, I believe the Bahamar deal is a bailout by another name.
What exactly does that have to do with this Cleptocracy in existence in the Bahamas? The government is spending too much money (half is stolen) and borrowing to finance carnivals. Blaming the "owners" of the bank or foreigners is just a red herring. Keep looking for it though.
All the dubious health products sold by uneducated snake oil salesmen making sweeping assertions about well being, served to undermine the credibility of the show.
The Chinese don't control the Bahamas. They control the fate of the Government. They have this power because the Bahamas failed to recognize the full scale of the project in relation to it's GDP. Similar to having an anchor that is heavy enough to sink the boat. There should have been dozens of project management staff working for the government, on site, every day. In fact, there should have been a Ministry created for the execution of this project.
The announcement did not need to be made when it was, so the scandal about secrecy and lawyers advice was unnecessary. Just a politician needing to make an announcement. The smart thing would have been to wait until the deal is done and the lawyers say it's ok to discuss.
Sarkis shamed the Chinese publicly. This is the worst thing you can do to a Chinese person or entity. There is no equivalent in our Occidental thinking so it's hard to explain. It is a near certainty, that they will never work with him.
I don't believe you hold a doctorate from the University of Chicago any more than you do. Upload a picture of your diploma if you can draw one. By "the old fashioned way", I assume you mean corruption not merit or intelligence.
