If Mr. Miller wants to take credit for the good at BEC, he needs to own the bad. He is partially responsible for the sorry state of this utility. His mismanagement stands as part of a corrupt legacy that threatens the very development of future generations of Bahamians.
Under his leadership, among others, this utility was allowed to metastasize in to the grave cancer that it is. How he reconciles this with his concern for Bahamians now, is beyond comprehension. As Trump would say; you have had 30 years to fix it and did nothing.
Now tell us about the rental trucks you had again............

Never too late to change public policy.

There is your solution. If 1% is 3 million dollars, then 100% surely solves the problem over time.
The National Lottery, if the funds are protected from politicians, would more than pay for a natural disaster every few years. Ideally it would be put in to proactive things like underground wiring.
There is probably enough profit to pay the 500 million debt BPL is saddled with and that continues to suck the life blood from all Bahamians.
Those who say too late are just shills for the industry; plain and simple. There is no reasonable excuse why this money should be concentrated in a few hands when the public good demands otherwise.

A national lottery is the best way to raise the money. The rest of the world pays health care and other common expenses with theirs.
All the excuses for not doing it are nonsense!!! The current owners are just regular people; no geniuses there. If they can do it, anyone can. Hire an outsider to set it up like they do in the US and then set up audited, public record keeping. This is doable now!!!
When you hear no; consider the source.

Translation: All bribes will now be paid at the stadium. At least it will be used for something.

C2B says...

No but we do have to pay for the health care of those who do. In a heavily taxed environment, with a good public health care system, you would be up in arms at the cost.

The Bahamian government, through it's actions in this matter, have tipped the foreign direct investment scales in Cuba's favour, for the next 25-35 years.

That is why they do this. Carbonated corn syrup drinks, like coke, are the tobacco of the 21st century. If they were really charitable, it wouldn't look like a publicity event; which it is. Why call the media to be charitable? The 3000 bucks it cost them to make this water will come out of the marketing budget and be worth many times that.
