Give it a rest. You all keep coming with these victim analogies. Has your community ever considered that your actions are the root cause of these issues. I bet not. Have you ever heard the one about the uninvited, ungrateful, constantly complaining guests? If not, just ask anyone how they feel about such people.

"In my judgement," his written ruling read, "having regard to the exceptional circumstances of this case – where the applicant has produced Bahamian birth certificate and the facts show he has never left the Bahamas prior to his deportation/expulsion and he was never charged with any offence under the Immigration Act and never taken before any court and no recommendation for deportation or deportation order was made in reference to him ...”

All that drivel and yet, conveniently, no mention of the citizenship application or filing window. That is what determines his legal status as a 35 year old man born to illegal immigrants. It is ridiculous that a judge could so blatantly disregard the constitution and set such a dangerous precedent.

I am sure he could have gotten an affidavit to submit along with his application. I hope this sends a message to the rest to adhere to the law by applying during the designated window.

Sad as as I am to read about his situation, there is no legal justification for granting him citizenship. Doing so would only reinforce the incorrect notion of birthright citizenship. He gained the right to apply on a loophole and foolishly lost it on a loophole. The minister will need to use his ministerial discretion here if they want to grant this man status.

If you are entitled to the right to apply for citizenship on a loophole, you are also entitled to lose that right when you don't comply with the terms which is that you apply before the age of 19. The sister said it herself, "At that time they (brothers) must be didn’t see the necessity of it."

It is not the job of immigration officers to vet the scraps of documents that he managed to produce when the law is quite clear. Children of foreigners must obtain and relinquish their foreigners passports for a Bahamian one. Deporting a 35 year old man who could not be bothered to apply for citizenship in accordance of the law is a good place to start. These people will not respect the law until it is seriously enforced.

Cas0072 says...

Always this victim mentality. What’s real is that the average Bahamian wants to see immigration laws carried out and the proper punishments applied. If your peers would stop with the fake documents that would be helpful as well. Meanwhile, the average deportee story is they lose my documents and immigration officers stole my money. How convenient.

The position of the majority of Bahamians on the topic of illegal immigration has always been clear. Unfortunately, we have nothing but untrustworthy governments who pretend to be on the same page as Bahamians only to turn around and aid and abet illegal immigration. You need look no further than this current administration to see this play out. Perhaps Fred Smith's antics will lead to a referendum so that we can get rid of the illegal enticements once and for all.

Secondly, these people do not want to be "part of we islands country" or they would have done a much better job of assimilating. How do you hole yourself up in illegal villages, and come out only to take advantage of free services, to work illegally, and dispatch funds to Haiti and think that will somehow endear you to the rest of the population?

Please don't anyone start a war on our Haitian brothers.

What a ridiculous comment to make. The problem is Bahamians are too passive. Please appeal to your Haitian brothers and sisters to respect the laws of The Bahamas because it is they who are the aggressors. Migrating illegally in droves, helping others to do the same, setting up a country within a country, and even boldly issuing terroristic threats against Bahamians on tv.

Cas0072 says...

When are the illegal Haitian parents and their offspring going to take any accountability for their actions? For decades now it has always been PMH or the registrar's office "lost" their birth certificates. I am sure that happens sometimes, but like this story of the "lost" and "found" undocumented migrant, I believe it is a convenient twisting of tales. Like being too broke to apply for their documents, but sending up to 100 million out of the country annually.

If he did not apply before his 19th birthday, he had no right to be in The Bahamas as a 35 year old man, regardless of the scraps of information that they attempted to submit when deportation came up. His parents abandoned him when they brought or gave birth to him in The Bahamas and believed that's all they needed to do. But of course, they knew they can count on the illegal immigrant enablers like Fred Smith, sell out politicians, and the elite to convince them that they are victims when they all have ulterior motives for keeping the slave like industry and population intact.

What happened to the emotional intelligence you espoused just a few weeks ago? I don't see it in this one sided column. You started off well enough but fell off the rails with your own vitriol, starting with chiding Bahamians for thinking they are special. Citizens everywhere feel they are special, including Haitians who pay homage to Haiti wherever they might be. If I got into the ridiculousness of your stereotypes, I would be here all day. You sound pretty much in agreement with people who say Bahamians don't know poverty and hence are indebted to or in a position to help Haiti. It is impossible to help anyone when you can't even help yourself. Too many Bahamians are struggling for this to be brushed aside on these faux humanitarian tirades.
