I don't think anyone is missing the point. The writer of the letter may have been mis-guided in directing his anger at the Police Officer who was just doing his job by enforcing the parking laws as he is paid to do. I agree that Road Traffic sucks and is fully responsible for any inconvenience suffered by the writer.
The Officer was just doing his job, which he is being paid to do. Apparently, the disabled sticker was not inside, where it belonged, and if on the outside, was probably removed by a passerby. People need to accept responsibility for their actions, even if those actions are done in ignorance. The Police Officer would have been wrong if he didn't order the vehicle towed. How many times have I looked for disabled parking in the downtown area, only to see cars without a sticker parked in the clearly designated Disabled Parking spots?
While I am saddened about the unfortunate loss of life, I cannot ignore the fact that, according to police, speed, above the posted limits, played a major role in this incident. When getting behind the wheel of a vehicle, we have to assume responsibility for our well-being. The Speed Limit signs are posted for a reason. We ignore them at our peril. Stop blaming the government for everything!
While I agree with the majority of Bahamians that the proposed VAT increase will be painful to many Bahamians, especially those who could least afford any increase to their cost of living, I have yet to hear of possible alternatives being suggested by the Naysayers. Other than hurling invectives and insults at those empowered to fix our economy, we should be offering up alternative models to raise the necessary revenue. It appears to me that no matter what the government does to address our dire situation, they will never please many amongst. If they tackle the bloated Civil Service, they are called heartless; if they begin a review of the public corporations for possible cost-cutting, they are attacked and the country is threatened by the Unions; and if they raise taxes, they are just plain Liars, ignorant, and clueless. I want to hear my fellow-bloggers plans/suggestions for fixing our financial situations. Anybody, bird-brains and all and sundry, can complain and hurl insults, but where are the patriots with the wisdom, knowledge, and foresight? It's your time to speak up. Put up or shut up, and let grown folks handle the country's affairs.
There are many deserving Bahamians who have unselfishly sacrificed of themselves for the betterment of our country. Many of them have never held political office, or received any special titles, appointments, or recognition. I will definitely be making some suggestions directly to the Honours Committee.
So, what about the creation of an airline registry, that you are not hearing? Are you even familiar with the ship registration success? And if Sky Bahamas, and the other Bahamian airline companies, benefits from this exemption, what is so wrong about that? We have to get away from the crab in the barrel syndrome.
The Airline Registry is a great idea, just like the Shipping Registry has been very successful. It was a prideful feeling, to observe a large vessel on the Mediterranean Sea, a couple years ago, with the Bahamian flag flapping in the wind. As the DPM stated, many of our neighbors will choose the Bahamas because of proximity and convenience. Only the bird-brain and prophets of doom among us can see the ulterior motive in this move,
This is exactly what is giving the Church and the Ministry of Jesus a bad name. No one should deny Mr. Duplantis his dream jet, however it definitely should not be done with the tax-exempt tithes and offerings.
