The more McAlpine talks, the worst he sounds. Maybe someone should counsel him on the old adage: "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt" .

In our fledging democracy, wherever the PM goes, the Press also goes! Get over it! That's how it works!

CatIslandBoy says...

Yes, I agree with you. The FNM could have done better than choosing this pathetic, "washed-up has been" sorry excuse for a Minister of the Gospel. I'm sure there was more to his rant than simply the issue of lending assistance to the Dominicans. Unfortunately, I am just hearing today that some Bahamians, who have been very vocal in their opposition to Minnis' proposals of assistance, did not know that there is a difference between the Dominicans from Dominica and those from the Dominican Republic. Apparently their hostility were driven in large part by their confusion between the two countries. Talk about a "D" grade education!

Who would have thought the good Reverend could be so insensitive, callous, and ignorant, all at the same time. I am ashamed to know that he wasted the first opportunity he got in Parliament to really introduce himself. What a condescending, low-life! What makes him, or any of you, think for a minute that Dominicans are just dying to get into our borders? Let me tell you, in case you haven't heard. No one wants to really come here, other than the Haitians, and most of them come because we are geographically one step away from the United States. Even the Cruise-passengers stay on-board the ship when in Nassau Harbor.

Some of you are just heartless! I hope the Bahamas never need assistance from another country. Where are these thousands of suffering Bahamians of which ye speak? Or, are you just making up numbers to support a losing argument? If this is the new Bahamian way of thinking, I would have none of it. What the PM is doing is the humane and Christian thing to do. Some Christian Nation. I believe that God has already turned his back on this country.

Chucky, you are so spot-on. I can't believe the selfishness, and just rank nonsense coming from some of you. The PM does not have to consult you before making decisions. He was elected to make decisions and lead. Tal, you must be really bored to sit and write the foolishness that you do. Despite your childish attempt at writing Bahamian dialect, I know that you are educated enough to know that the Governor General cannot simply, at will, relieve the Prime Minister of his duties, and thus usurp the will of the voters.

I am hopeful that the Cabinet will recognize the urgency of the real problem which lies at the feet of Immigration. We have a serious immigration problem that continues to manifest itself in so many other areas of the Bahamian life. However, we must be mindful that we must educate all children in our society (in accordance with the UNCRRC), just as we must treat all ill persons, regardless of their Immigration status. We do this, not to reward illegal immigration, but to protect ourselves. Just think of the consequences if we didn't. Also, if we are truly a Christian nation, then it should be a no-brainer.

So, Immigration must begin to do their jobs. Round-ups and Deportation must be ramped up. The Defence Force must become more vigilant in interceptions. Bahamians who employ illegal labour must be hauled before the courts and punished harshly as a deterrence to others. In the meantime, we must educate all children within our borders without regards to their Immigration status.

This is very disappointing, coming from a person who wants to lead the PLP away from their past and back into the government. Brave Davis should be ashamed of himself. I hope that Cat Island, San Salvador, and Rum Cay retires him at the earliest opportunity. Even Tal can see that he is talking foolishness.
