No, Tal. I am suggesting that the Rules and Regulations prohibiting beards could be amended to provide various exemptions (such as religious, or medical) as long as they do not interfere with the professionalism of the organization.
The real argument here is about religious discrimination. Why can't a Muslim be allowed to serve in the RBPF? Times are a changing, and police forces across the globe have had to amend their rules and regulations to accommodate these changing times. Even the British, who first gave us these antiquated rules and regulations, now allow beard-wearing Muslim officers. So does Canada. The Bahamas does not have to be last in line when it comes to moving into the 21st Century and updating its Regulations. How could a beard deter an officer from performing his duties? It also appears from this article that COP Greenslade's move was one of spitefulness. He re-assigned the officer from the mechanic shop to a regular station to either break him or fire him.
There is nothing political about these 3 former government officials being charged. It is all about being criminals. Maybe Gibson's arraignment could have been handled with a little more sensitivity, if he was truly suffering from physical limitations. It is possible that Mr. Gibson could be declared Not Guilty by a Jury, but that doesn't mean he is innocent. Let's be real. I don't know how any Bahamian believes that many of these guys go into parliament with a few thousand dollars in assets, but a few years later they are suddenly millionaires. Every dollar of kickback, or bribery, or extortion, is another dollar added to the deficit.
I agree with SP! Anyone who suggests that the current minimum wage of $150.00 is sufficient does possess a slave master mentality. I don't think this is racist. It just so happens that the Bosses who rail against any increase happens to be White and Wealthy, and those suffering from being underpaid happens to be black.
Mr. Cooper has begun to disappoint already. Obviously he is taking the Bahamian Public to be ignorant by spouting out utter nonsense. Who prepares a budget without taking into account the outstanding bills to be paid? These PLP's just cant change - even the Newbies are willing to sacrifice their souls at the political altar. Mr. Cooper should know better.
What seems to be lost on these out-dated PLP politicians, and their supporters, is the serious crimes of corruption that these former ministers have been charged with. How can anyone call the supposed extortion of almost a million dollars a "Witch Hunt", or "Slave-shaming". Are these apologists saying that it is ok for any politician to steal this kind of money, directly or indirectly, from the People's Treasury and face no consequences? Any Bahamian who believes that politicians of any political color should not face legal consequences for their malfeasance while in public office should be ashamed of themselves.
**"The people convicted us and they sentenced to a maximum of five years," Mr Davis said** Will someone please tell this clown that the PLP was sentenced to a minimum of five years.
Unfortunately Brave Davis does not know the Truth, or how to tell it. He believes that the Bahamian voters are fickle, and will simply forget about the atrocities of the last PLP reign.
