No matter his rhetoric, Mr. Cooper ran, and won his seat, under the PLP's banner. He cannot now disassociate himself from the brand upon which he staked his political future.
Seriously, SP, your list of Cabinet appointments has nothing to do with reality. Please explain how you arrived at this re-shuffled cabinet before it is announced publicly?
Until Bradley Roberts come clean about the millions of dollars Peter Nygard poured into the coffers of the PLP, and what promises were made to him, and favors granted, he has no standing to request the same from the FNM. It seems as though the PLP Boys are having a hard time accepting their rejection by the Bahamian voters. Bradley should just go quietly into the night.
Even though I am a strong FNM supporter, and an avid defender of Doc, I don't feel as though Isaac's threat amounts to criminal conduct. Yes, his statement shows gross disrespect to the Prime Minister, and should be discouraged as we seek to elevate political discourse in our country. Isaacs said that if Minnis repeated his claims, to his face, outside the privileged halls of Parliament, he would strike him in the mouth. This does not rise to the level of a crime in the United States, and anyone making such a threat against a U.S. president would not be visited by the Secret Service. The Prime Minister did the honourable thing in just simply ignoring the rantings of an old fool who is seeing his access to the Bahamian cookie jar slipping away.
Mr. Davis would not recognize the truth if it stared him straight in the face. He is master of deceit, and will never bring himself to acknowledge the truth about anything connected to the PLP. Hopefully, this will be his undoing as he watches the longed-for Prime Minister position slip from within his grasp.
This Bodie fella is a piece of work. Having already lost any shred of credibility, he is now showing the public that he is willing to kiss any azz that might might help him along. There is absolutely no shame in his game.
The majority? Isn't that a little harsh? Yes, there is a degree of systemic ignorance and corruption, but it is not the majority. Bahamians have excelled in entertainment, the arts, education, health, law, and the civil service. As a teenager, coming of age in the colonial era, with no family wealth, my options were limited beyond High School - if I made it that far (there were no High Schools in the Out Islands). All around me, the senior positions in government, and the private industry were all held by foreigners, Fast forward 50 years later, many Bahamians are in charge, not only in their homeland, but in other countries, There are Bahamians in the United States who are presidents of Colleges, and hospitals. Others have excelled well in their own private businesses - I know of at least 3 Bahamian millionaires who came from very humble beginnings in these very islands. I could go on and compare the Bahamas with some of our Caribbean neighbors, like Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, etc., and the evidence shows that we have held our own.
This editorial seem to suggest that the Bahamas was better off under colonial rule than we are today. I beg to differ. While the PLP may have Plundered Looted and Pillaged vast amounts of the people's assets over the years, we are also more advanced, and have struggled to almost keep pace with a changing world. Of course we still have a great distance to go to be totally proud of our achievements, we are still head and shoulders above many other former British Colonies.
