since you didn't read the story, here's and excerpt giving the "why"

"Beach workers blocked access to the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge early this afternoon, in protest at this morning's closure of the Cabbage Beach entrance adjacent to the Riu Paradise Island Hotel."

It might not hurt, in fact it might more than like be good for The Bahamas to consider not just the perspective, but perhaps what's actually good for other people and their countries.

We may not be a wealthy nation, when you consider the general state of our economy, but we might still be able to some good things for the people of this world.

I think that all of our bickering over "our country" , "our laws" , "our rights" etc etc is actually damaging. What have we really every done for anyone in this world other than ourselves?

Even Kenya, who's GDP per capita ranks #30 in the worlds good countries ranking, their GDP per capita is about 1/10 of ours. We don't even rate on the list, we're a non mentionable country because our country, The Bahamas, has not been recognized to have done and significant measurable thing for another country in this world. Sure we've done our one hit wonders, a feed bag for Haiti when the earthquake hit, but we have no record of continual support for anyone or anything outside of our own country.

Something to think about, might even be enough to make one question how we can have any pride at all.

Perhaps our fearless leaders should have a look at Goodcountry.org and see if they can't figure out if they can get us in the rankings, even last place would be better than not being recognized.

clearly they don't understand the constitution

Chucky says...

legislators enact legislation, when the legislation contravenes the constitution it becomes "unconstitutional". It's just that simple.

No matter how much arrogance a "legislator(s)" possess, they cannot create laws that don't jive with the constitution. If they want to get really serious about taking away any remaining decency in this country these parliamentarians will have to organize and then attack the constitution....

Who you think you're kidding SP, all the people on work permit are working for Bahamians. Tell me of one organization here of any size or capacity that doesn't employ foreigners?
The expats are here because we don't have qualified or dedicated enough people to organize and get things done.
We first need to show we can do these jobs and do them just as well, and only then will there be an incentive to eliminate expats. Unfortunately , for this to happen, we need to have real education for our people, and improve on our own integrity and work ethic.
No employer would ever hire a foreign if we had an equivalent sitting here and available.

I'll give you a hint; when you see 50,000 or more people marching down town, angry as hell, you will know change is about to happen!

Until then, everybody is "happy enough" with the status quo, or at least happy enough not to even bother organizing or attending a mass protest!

Nobody is suggesting this is a democratic country, or that it has an educated population.

Smoke and Mirrors people.

This is just a story to help the PM save face.

The PM knew that the Chinese were the problem, but they wanted to get back at Izzy for his negative comments towards the leadership; regardless of costs to the economy or the project.

Perry Christie is looking for a way to make it sound like he was mislead, like he thought he was doing the right thing for the right reasons........

What a complete farce.

The Canadian government released it's cost per person for healthcare for 2015, $6100.00 per person.

They talking bout a couple hundred bucks to each doctor for each patient? I know this is not to cover hospital costs, or ambulances, administration etc etc, but even if this Governments health care estimates were 1/4 of Canada's expenditure per capita, the total cost would be about 1/2 billion per year. More than half our budget! And at 1/4 the amount spent by Canada's Government per capita on healthcare, we know we'd get less than 1/4 the care.

Lets face it, we can't afford universal healthcare here!

See the Canadian statistics in the link below. Canada's health care is the one other countries always cite as an example to shoot for, but I hear it isn't that great. Wonder what we'll get here? Bandaids?
