I have asked before, and I’ll ask again: Why does The Tribune continue to refer this guy as “brave”? There is nothing brave about him, there never has been, and The Tribune does not refer to any other Bahamian public figure by their nickname.
I could live with the conflict of interest if only somebody could actually guarantee that someday we’ll actually have mail delivery. And heaven forbid that someday you could actually subscribe to a magazine in the Bahamas and actually have it delivered, rather than stolen.
My “drill” when I have to visit Nassau: Avoid downtown if possible, carry as little cash as necessary, and in my hotel room with the door double-locked by sunset.
It’s a shame to have to hide in a hotel room and dine on Cheetos and a Coke in the nation’s capital.
The per-capita murder rate in the Bahamas is far, far higher than the U.S. — 5 times higher, in fact. We have the 11th highest murder rate in the world.
So, indeed, the “cultural” factor would be of concern when a threat like that comes from a person from the Bahamas. Apparently, when we say “kill”, we mean it.
