Well, when you buy a ticket on BahamasAir, the minimum you expect is that the pilot is not an unlicensed hacker. As long as attitudes like this exist, Bahamians will continue to get a piss-poor level of service on everything we pay for. We deserve better. Do you also make sympathetic excuses when the water and power go down? SMH.
I agree with Concerned Citizen. While I’d love to see this property preserved as a public park, it is private land and it cannot be just “taken”. Somebody’s gotta pony up and finance a purchase of it, whether that’s the gov’t or One Eleuthera Foundation or some other preservationist group.
Also, it is interesting to note that, to date, *nobody* has confirmed that Disney is interested in this land. Every time ya try to track that idea, it leads back to “rumors” on the island. Disney has never publicly acknowledged any interest in the land. They’ve confirmed that they’re looking for a second property in the Bahamas, but they’ve never confirmed that Lighthouse Point is their goal. It’s quite likely that LIghthouse Point is far too large and too expensive for one of their tourist-boat landings.
The Bible also tells us that many of the patriarchs lived +900 years and were still fathering children when they were 300-400 years old. We seem to disagree on what constitutes an “expert” on mental health in the 21st century.
“Experts say suicide is a demonic spirit that attacks a person even as they sleep.” — Complete and utter bullshit. “Experts” say no such thing. Demonic spirits? Uh ... no. Experts on mental illness do not accredit it to “demons.”
But I agree with your belief that “we ask that the souls of these men rest in peace,” and not splashed across the front page of the newspaper.
The Tribune should learn that a sad act of private suicide is a private matter, not something that need be splashed across its front page. Unless the victim committed the act in some wild public manner, like the pilot referenced above, it should be treated with dignity and reserve. Shame on this story.
A good idea, but it would not solve the reality that Lighthouse Point is privately owned and is for sale. The private owner could gate off the access to the point at any time, and it’s actually surprising that he’s never done so. The ultimate solution is for the government to buy the property and preserve it.

Hilarious. You’re proud that the pilot can fly the plane. Utterly hilarious.
