Prediction: About $800,000 of this “anti-corruption” grant will be stolen, outright. The remainder will be used to fund reports that nobody will read, compiled by friends and relatives of the government at 10x what they should have cost. The reports will be formally presented at a series of gala banquets attended by everybody in the city who owns a white shirt and a tie.

Who owned the plane? Why isn’t he in jail right now?

Fair enough, but they never do any follow-up reporting when these Out Island deals simply collapse. Ever. Nobody from The Tribune, or the govt for that matter, ever moves their fat arse from their comfy Nassau chair to do any actual reporting. They just make stupid grand pronouncements and read press releases as if the were Holy Scripture. Pathetic, really.

Yawnnnnn ... it is embarrassing how often Neil Hartnell and The Tribune, over the years, have been conned by glitzy press releases and chest-thumping, non-binding “heads of agreements” for these pie-in-the-sky, mega-billion-dollar Out Island developments that never happen. Embarrasing. He should hide his head in shame.

CaptainCoon is absolutely right. Dr. Sands should move his plump arse out of Nassau from time to time and realize that most Out Islands, including Eleuthera, don’t have even one single doctor in residence. And The Tribune could win some journalism awards if it investigated the outright fraud involved in the land purchase for the long-promised hospital on Eleuthera, where millions of taxpaying Bahamians’ dollars have been poured into what remains a vacant lot that might have been worth $35,000, tops. Dr. Sands’ comments are a disgrace.

Property taxes in the U.S. are not set by states, they are set by a mix of taxing authorities, including states, counties, cities, school boards, etc. The numbers you are quoting probably are averages. For example, the property tax in rural New York State will be far different than New York City. But any of them will be well below what the Bahamas is proposing. Goodbye, expats ...

Nice move, genius. He’ll claim it’s the tree’s fault for beein’ dere.

Yup ... but, hey, look on the bright side: Pretty soon we won’t have to deal with all those annoying foreigners and their grubby money. We can all go back to happily growing tomatoes and selling them to each other for a living!
