It is truly a shame. Most everybody here on Eleuthera is friendly and we don't have as bad a crime problem (yet!), but even here the visitors are growing increasingly weary of being bled dry at every turn. Many long-term expats have their homes up for sale, planning to leave, no longer feel welcome in the Bahamas. Prices and fees and taxes keep skyrocketing, utilities and services such as health care and air service grow steadily worse.

The Bahamas is rapidly developing a reputation on internet travel sites for danger, violence, high prices, huge hidden hotel taxes and fees, rude and lazy service, and mediocre, vastly overpriced food and drinks. And nasty Customs/Immigration officials. Pretty soon we all be back to growin' tomatoes for a living.

I didn't know we had 851 police officers. If that's true, why is crime out of control?

McFarland's statement is complete and utter bullshlt. He makes it sound as if he and JaRule were innocent victims of circumstance. No. They are arrogant, clueless, incompetent jerks. Their complete stupidity caused this fiasco. Any other attempt at an explanation is a lie.

A most excellent commentary. Bravo. But as the story has been reported in the U.S., it doesn't seem that anybody with any sense is blaming the Bahamas -- rather the absolutely clueless, brain-dead "celebrities" who think the Bahamas is just an extension of Miami Beach and they can organize a major event just by gassing about it on social media.

Two separate long weekends, this week and next. Supposedly.

Meanwile, the annual Eleuthera jazz festival came off without a hitch a few weeks ago -- because those people actually know what they're doing. It's not some half-baked scam run by phony celebrities.

... do all political parties receive their donations secretly, in US bank accounts? And then claim it was for "scholarships for students"? If that were true, wouldn't the funds go into a Bahamian bank account? Any evidence of these "scholarships", Birdie?
