Agreed!

Not going to happen. Culturally speaking all Bahamians do is “airbag”.

We know how to create problems. We know how to talk about problems. But we’re incompetent, illiterate, laughing-stocks when it comes to solving problems.

First of all, I have to wonder who actually advises Dr. Minnis. I ask this question because he seems totally detached from reality. Secondly, Dr. Minnis has absolutely no credibility left. He abandoned his post 8 months early only to emerge in the HOA and make recommendations as it relates to taxes????? The immediate and obvious question is why didn’t he do it when he was in office??? Every time Hubert Minnis opens his mouth the PLP gets another vote.

I feel bad for any human being that goes hungry. But hungry children are not the responsibility of the Government. Parents are responsible for their children. Parents are responsible for making themselves marketable in an ever-changing, competitive world in order to provide for their families. Parents are responsible for attaining certain educational and vocational skills necessary to survive in a tough, unforgiving world. There are no handouts in life. Nobody owes us anything. One of the main problems is that many Bahamians have made poor choices in their lives regarding their future. And poor choices have led to poor outcomes. We can’t always expect the government to do things for us that we aren’t willing to do for ourselves. With the exception of orphans, and widows, the government is not responsible for feeding and babysitting our children. Their parents are. Any child that goes hungry I challenge you to take a look at their parents. Especially their fathers. And I guarantee you’ll see the nucleus of the problem. Children are going hungry because their parents are in the numbers house.

Actually, all houses and businesses should be insured by the owners. Technically speaking the government is not obligated to rebuild any privately owned establishment. However, the government does allocated a limited amount of money to subsidize and assist with small business repairs. They also help small home owners with small repairs thru Urban Renewal.

I don’t see anything fraudulent about what Mr. Sweeting said. His ministry is simply trying to do a little good for a few vendors who lost their stalls to a fire.

Cobalt says...

@shesprunner12 There is nothing wrong with the government financially assisting small businesses. The government actually has money allocated for things like this.

You forgot to mention that some of the blame rest with “we” the Bahamian people as well.

Politicians are elected from a pool of Bahamian citizens. They are reflective of “us” the people. Politicians are incompetent, derelict, and inept because “we” the Bahamian people are incompetent, derelict, and inept. Take a moment to evaluate how the average Bahamian operates in his/her daily life. We are unreliable, we don’t respect time, we are unaccountable, we are dishonest, we are lazy, we are dysfunctional, we procrastinate, we are selfish, we expect something for nothing, we don’t respect the value of a good education, we are unfaithful, we are disorderly, we are rhetorical, we have self-destructive habits, and we are void of any true desire to bring about change. All of these traits sum up our people and likewise our government.
