First off, Old Fort Bay does not have a golf course. . . . .

Secondly for at least 30 years South Ocean has gone from one owner to the next, with each new owner predicting great things and with each new owner losing millions of dollars.

The only salvation for the place may be becoming part of Albany.

A stand alone hotel / resort has not worked in the past and will not work in the near future. Why would any guest want to stay as South Ocean and get bad service (and be trapped in the middle of nowhere) if they can stay on Cable Beach or Paradise Island and get the same bad service. At least on Cable Beach and Paradise Island there is something else to do

They must continue the fight! Keep visiting the homes. Sign up the masses.

AND, at 20 homes per day, they will be finished in 5-10 years

Another example of a Caribbean project not getting completed on time and inexperienced developers/owners pushing to open to soon . . . . and then stuff like this happens.

No with all the bad press it will cost them more than if they had waited to open later

I thought that Churches took care of the needy? . . . .

Oh, I forgot, the Pastor has too many personal expenses to take care of. Can't afford charity

So what if he is behind on his taxes. Most other Bahamians are late on theirs bills too. According to an article in this fine newspaper dated June 10, 2013

***“Of our roughly 65,000 to 70,000 residential customers, 90 per cent have arrears more than 90 days past due... The value of those arrears is in the neighbourhood of $26 million,” Mr Miller said.***

90% are past due! ! ! !.

No one pays their bills in this country. It's "unbahamian" to pay on time

There must be a lot of educating needed if we need to wait until 2020 as Mr. Dean suggests. It's obvious that no one wants the tax so the only alternative would be for the Government to fire 50%, or more, of its employees.

The Tribune should add a new section to the paper for articles like this. Call it the IDIOT section. It could be good for a laugh now and then

I do not understand ***"Sales tax does not capture services; it only captures good. If we are by and large a services economy, and your concern is that services have largely gone untaxed . . "*** I would think that you could make a law to add sales tax to anything that you want. This seems to be an inaccurate comment.

As far as VAT being self regulated, the reason is that a company pays VAT on purchases and Collects on sales. So if they want to get back what they paid in VAT they need to report what they collect. With sales tax everyone will simply sell things off the books and no taxes will be collected.
