God I hate the thought of the PLP getting reelected. They jump in bed with the most shady types, Nygard, the number boys and god know who else!

Craig says...

How can they even give a moments consideration to giving this former criminal a banking license? Why do we reward all the wrong things in this country? How about hard work, honesty, good family, being loyal to ones spouse, etc.?

Craig says...

They already have the answer. Buy or build large expensive homes and sell them legitimately. Open development companies and invest in real estate, office buildings, condos, malls, etc. and collect rent and sell condos. Where there is a will... These people are going to become the first set of Bahamian billionaires. Former numbers people. What a joke

I don't agree with Web Shops. The government has made "legitimate" businessmen out of criminals. That said, this move is protectionist and exclusionary. They have effectively placed a very deep and wide moat around this industry. This will inevitably benefit the existing players tremendously, who will continue to be enriched. The Web Shop "businessmen" could not ask for a better scenario. No new competition will be allowed into the market for at least 10 years. Wow. Where do they get these ideas from? Who is advising them? Perhaps these Web Shop "businessmen" themselves are advising. We have got to elect politicians that are competent and not corrupt.

It's interesting that both sides were represented by politicians, a PLP for BTC and FNM's for Island Bell, Everything is this country boils right down to politics.

You hit the nail on the head!! Power Secure will need 15 years to unravel that mess they call BPL, they are not miracle workers.

I don't blame Power Secure. I blame all the former and current engineering and technical staff that put that hodge podge of a power distribution system together of past 40 years. What we now have is the result of gross negligence and incompetence. Now that Power Secure is here the government has an easy target to attack. Successive governments have failed to deal with the obvious problem, i.e. incompetent people were put in positions that they were totally unqualified to perform, and when the whole specter of political interference is thrown in the mix, the result is the mess we are currently experiencing. Power Secure had no idea what hornets nest they were walking into when they signed the contract. Good luck Power Secure you are going to need it!!!

This is a pattern with BEC. Whenever there is a major power cut, island wind and prolonged, they blame faulty cables. That may very well be the reason, but why on earth does a fault in a single cable cause an island wide black out. This makes no sense. This is equivalent to a guest in a hotel room in Atlantis plugging in a faulty hair dryer or something, which causes a short, which in turns shuts down the entire hotel's electrical system. Is their grid that unstable or poorly maintained? Aren't BEC workers some of the highest paid people in the country. I guess high pay does not equate to competence. Those in charge of this system obviously have no idea what they are doing. Please fire them and put people there who know what they are doing.

The nerve of this guy. The PLP government essentially legitimized these wealthy criminals, and now they have the heart and complain about illegal activities. These people make a mockery out of hard working businessmen and women who sacrificed a whole lot to earn what they have legitimately. This webshop law should be repealed and all webshops should be closed down.!!!
