I cannot believe that they have to depend upon the Police Fire protection services to deal with such emergencies. All power stations, especially those that use flammable fuel sources such as diesel and bunker C, have fire protection systems, BPL's power stations are no different. The only difference is the fire protection systems, water sprinklers, form based systems and the like were probably not working, and probably haven't been working for years. With properly functioning fire protection systems in placed, and they were there when the plant was built, would have substantially reduced the severity of the damage. Maynard has even indicated in the report that the entire building needs to be condemned, and this apparently is an opportunity. Wow truly amazing, an opportunity? Surely he must have said that tongue in cheek. With all the cover up that is taking place in Clifton we probably will never know the root causes of the accident.
Agreed there is no need for Bahamian intermediaries. They serve no useful purpose other than to themselves, to the tune of millions. When are we going to stop this nonsense in this country?
“Mr Bannister, in explaining the move to Tribune Business in late July, said: “We thought the new chief executive needed some assistance in certain areas, and guidance from somebody with the kind of expertise Mr Rollins has. Mr Rollins is an engineer by training, and former fraud control manager at BTC”. So what is all this expertise Banister is touting? Surely it’s much much more than some engineering training and experience in fraud control. Sounds bogus to me.
You've just reinforced the point of what everyone has been saying. Government boards are ineffectual due to political interference and that is not going to change any time soon. As long as successive governments continue to appoint boards, which they are legally mandated to do so, there will be interference, especially when boards starts to "mash the corns" of the powers that be. Government boards are a waste of time and money no matter how or with whom they are constituted
Let's face it, government boards are toothless and have no real power, therefore effectively they serve no useful purpose, which is pretty much a waste of everyone's time and money including the board members themselves. A properly functioning and empowered board is crucial to the health and success of an organization. However if its very existence or who sits on it are left to the whims of one or a small group of individuals then there is no way for it to be effective.

I think all tour boats operations in Exuma should be issued this order also until their water craft are proved safe. The fact that there wasn't even the most basic safety equipment on board the ill fated boat including the surrounding vessels is a strong indicator of an indemic problem. All such vessels should be inspected to ensure they meet the appropriarte code such as NFPA and until they do all such vessels not be allowed to operate. Until such actions are done things will be right back to normal in a few weeks
I agree fire extinguishers could not have prevented the explosion but that's not the point. Fire extinguishers are a mitigation tool. The accident would have been so much less severe had fire extinguishers been available. A life could have possibly been saved. There is abosolutely no excuse for not having them on board or even on board surrounding vessels. Whoever is responsible for inspecting commercial watercraft should be held responsible for gross negligance and incompetance. The owner of the boat, I dont what they should do with him, criminal negligance charges perhaps should be filed
I cant believe that there was not one fire extinguisher in sight in the video of the incident. Not even on the boat the video was taken from. There is no respect for rules and procedures in this country. This attitude will continue to cost the lives of innocent people
