The bottom line is neither this government nor its predecessors give/gave a flying fig about the struggle for survival of business in today's economic climate, unless such business is owned by one of their politically elite brothers, sisters or cronies. Government views business in the Bahamas as its cash cow and the labour laws offer no protection whatsoever for the business operator. They had better buck up before the only commerce around will be out of the boot of a car or in the shanty towns.
Mr. Smith is right, of course, about all of the convoluted exemptions, and the opening of the door to tax dodging. Government was warned repeatedly against this policy by the business community and financial experts at large. Did the Ministers listen? Of course not. Now they will concoct new schemes as means of covering the short fall. Have they tightened their belts? Of course not. Are the numbers houses continuing to wipe out the economy? Of course they are. Has the government wasted countless thousands of tax payers' dollars on useless audits of no consequence? Of course they have. SSDD
Strongly suspect you are right, would it not be superb if they would prove you wrong? It is SUCH a serious issue.
One shudders to think what this does to the whole marine ecological system, including our much loved seafood, which we eat! Do we actually know what these monstrous ships put into the public purse, versus the costs of accommodating them at our ports and in our waters?
Excellent point about trees. Do we want to lose the forests or do we want the world to implode from drilling and 'fracking'? At least folk can take their own bags to the grocery stores as they used to do, and are now doing again, in many countries in Europe. Personal recycling/reuse is an excellent start.
