I feel for GB but must ask - what about the economic oppression caused by BEC?

A friend recently returned form a visit to Freeport and stated that although people are driving around and the town is not completely dead, it has lost its soul. Further there are people all over the place with uniforms sporting the logo "HW".

"We can speculate as to what’s going to happen and say all the people that currently have major medical plans are going to drop down to this, but I don’t think that is going to happen and certainly it is not the plan of the government to reduce the major medical plans of the existing civil servants like the police, defence force, nurses, teachers, etc, to the NHI plan."

What exactly is the point of National Health Insurance if Government does not include civil servants among those who will benefit from the plan, and compels The People to continue to pay for their private insurance? What am I missing? How can the Government dictate to private medical insurers how to structure their plans?

How will anyone get any healthcare if Nassau has no nurses and the Family Islands have no doctors at their clinics?

"Why did we let this happen to us? How could we have been so stupidly docile?"

Mudda, I do believe we are already asking that question!

I would love to see the current Cabinet respond to each and every point outlined in these few words of advice which I think no sane person would find off base. Have to give credit where credit is due!!

"US sanctions on Iran and Venezuela have sparked rising fuel cost fears." Also the Saudis are telling everyone to back off! Such fun and games and murder and mayhem in this global world!

"The SHB, which is NHI's minimum or base care/benefits package, is supposed to be incorporated into companies' existing group health insurance plans. As a result, the "2 percent of salary" levy - ranging from $8 to a maximum $42 per month depending on income, and capped at a $500 annual maximum - will effectively be taken from existing premium contributions."

I cannot quite understand how this will play out, and how it applies to government employees who make up, is it one-quarter(?), of the work force.

The thing is, Dr.Sands, what will you all really do with the extra tax? Send more people to Geneva or London or New York? Do you remember when the FNM election campaign slogan was "it's a matter of trust"?

The proposed system, particularly with respect to part-time, secondary, employees sounds as convoluted as only those in political office would think comes across and clear and concise.

By the way, "The Consolidated Fund" is a bunch of foolishness designed to make the theft of The People's money easier.

Then again, those were different times. The current governance in the U.K. leaves a lot to be desired. They have gone the way of the U.S.A. with the pound before all else. Huge volumes of weapons sales to the Saudis, bank bailouts, big corporations holding hands with those in Parliament, fracking against the wishes of The People, cutting taxes on big companies and telling their People they have no funds for public services due to austerity.

Still in all, I too would rather be under the Union Jack.
