Their is little concern about human rights. How many of our young men would have been pick-up by the police, beating and send home without ever been charge. In fact, it is a common joke when a person is pickup on a Friday and have to endure until Monday. We have a problem but we are so backwards in our thinking that we attempt to dismiss the issue by pointing to some other malady.
As much as I detest collective bargaining and have no taste for civil disorder, Sandals also carry some responsibility here also. The workers established a union in a legal manner, recognized by the Labor Department. It's obvious to everyone that Sandals didn't want a union in its work place. I own a company and rightfully so, I don't want one in my company but once the law to established one was followed then I will concede to workers' legal right for representation. Sandals most likely will have to concede or pay for wrongful dismissal.
The dive is not something new to track. It happen to Chris Brown during the 2008 Olympics and as recent as the US Olympic trials. I don't see what the big deal is. The Olympic comes every four years. Do what you have to do legally to win because the next track sensation is right around the corner or the athlete taking the undetectable PED.

Classical union busting. Sandals will now say that the union doesn't hold majority sway. Another vote will be held and the employees will be reluctant to vote for collective bargaining.
The cases that Fred Smith is winning are not difficult cases. The government has abuse the process of law that a layman could win these cases. You don't hold people in prison for an inordinate amount of time without a trial. You don't table stolen documents and think you have a privilege to do so. What is so disheartening is the makeup of parliament is primarily lawyers.
SP, I could only assume that you live adjacent to the mud and your only interaction is with your neighbors next door. In New Providence we have communities that were design to move the average Bahamian from the so call ghetto areas to modern day trendy environments. Guess what happen, the ghetto came along to Yellow Elder Garden, Elizabeth Estates and the like. These areas don't have Haitians living in them but have evolve into a bee hive of crime. It is also obvious that you are elderly and speaking of a Bahamas that once existed but this current generation have absolutely no problem with the government taking care of them. Case and point "the public service". Oh! you thought they were actually working".
