I don't support the PLP on much but I support NHI. At one juncture I was able to afford private health insurance for my family and I. Today, it is out of reach. The sooner it is implemented the better. I was part of a group plan and every year we played musical chairs with insurance companys. Even a bad health insurance plan is better than no plan.
Here we go again. The average child in the Bahamas don't have a passport. The birth certificate don't specify the nationality of the parent. I guess they can always use last name. If you are a Rolle you are Bahamian, if you are Pierre you are Haitian. Our policy makers need a course on policy making.
Remember when Mr. Rolle made a statement regarding VAT that cause an uproar in Freeport that he later recanted. I said then he was stating exactly the government intent. If the government can do away with the Hawkes Bill Creek Agreement, it will do exactly that. In the main time it will seek to erode all its benefits.
PMH does have it share of problems but the report is obviously flawed. PMH in most cases handles 95% of the critical emergency cases in the Bahamas. If a car crashes even if that person have private insurance they are taken to PMH. One of the major reason why the infant mortality rate in the USA is low is because doctors there discourage natural birth. Due to the constant threat of malpractice litigation, hospital encourage doctors to perform C-section which is controlled delivery rather than the unpredictability of labor and virginal birth.
When I was in the public service in the 80's we used hand written receipts, today they are still doing the same thing. With modern technology all you have to do is have a senior immigration officer with an ipad on the bus connected to immigration and type in her name everything comes up. Better still, press her finger print against a print reader and her picture and info comes up. The benefit is that you now have space in the bus and at the detention center for those who are truly illegal.Wow, these are the guys we voted for.
Limited Liability Company and Corporation are separate legal entities from their owners. The latest Supreme Court ruling actually impute religious belief on such entities. BFM is not culpable.
The resident belongers permit will not work either. To obtain any permit you need a passport to establish identification. The Haitian kids will not apply for a Haitian passport because they simply don't believe they are Haitians. The status quo remains.
