The problem is that we treat psychological problems so casually. I am of the opinion that problems of the mind are more prevalent than physical problems.Just like our bodies get sick the same thing happen with the mind. We are reluctant to seek help due to the stigma of been label as crazy. A clear indication of this is the amount of persons who self medicate(rum, marijuana and the likes)
The S&P forcing VAT down our throats. The US embassy issuing travel advisories about the crime situation and now International Human rights groups. The Bahamas can't get a break.
Actually, the contractor should be given the opportunity to rebuild. Most government contracts are profit laden. He most likely can build at half the cost provided that he charge cost. If another contractor is engage the Government will have to pay cost plus huge profit.
To compel the golden boy of the UBP to resign was no small feat. As powerful as Brent Symonette was, Ingraham made him step down. Ingraham don't pay that.
Exchange control is hindering growth but their are many ways to get around it. Find a company that does a lot of business in US dollars. For instant, if Commonwealth Brewery needs 20 million in US dollars, all they have to do is call a company like Atlantis. Commonwealth would deliver a 20 million Bahamian dollar cheque to Atlantis and Atlantis(from US account) wires 20 million US dollars to Commonwealth Brewery US base account. No bank conversion fees and no Central Bank approval. Its a win/win for both companies. They both save $50,000 each. Atlantis needs Bahamian dollars to pay it staff and Commonwealth Brewery needs US dollars to buy supplies.
I don't support the PLP on much but I support NHI. At one juncture I was able to afford private health insurance for my family and I. Today, it is out of reach. The sooner it is implemented the better. I was part of a group plan and every year we played musical chairs with insurance companys. Even a bad health insurance plan is better than no plan.
Here we go again. The average child in the Bahamas don't have a passport. The birth certificate don't specify the nationality of the parent. I guess they can always use last name. If you are a Rolle you are Bahamian, if you are Pierre you are Haitian. Our policy makers need a course on policy making.

It sets a bad precedent. To exaggerate it, is it proper for the Prime Minister to call a Supreme Court Judge and offer advise on a pending matter.
