Sorry, but is Mr. Dames not one of very few, maybe the first in the Bahamas to appointed to a Ministerial Position who actually has some real world experience in the Ministry he has been chosen to run? What experience did Phillip have to be Minister of National Security except spending years and earning millions getting criminals out of charges? hmm. (maybe he is well qualified then, just on the other side) Perhaps these 2 individuals were so unsuited to the job, or perhaps really disliked by the other staff and officers that they needed to be replaced. if you got transferred out of Finance i wonder why? if she worked through the whole system to almost the top and didn't get selected i wonder why? Do we look inside and examine our faults or do we just blame everyone else around us?
Are they saying that the Bahamas Government should not have the right to control who and what kind of development or investment happens in the Bahamas? Do they not know how regulated the UK is? I'd like to try telling the town of Oxford that it must allow me to build a 3 square mile surf park on the edge of town with the only justification being that i have the money to finance it and most importantly that market forces are driving me to do it (when there is not way to know, as Madhatter says supply creates demand right?
is now a good time to talk about liability insurance, safety protocols, public safety, proper training, tourism/hospitality/Bahamahost training. background checks, proper licensing and review board, business licenses, VAT registration etc. no? oh nevermind.
I find it laughable that they think speeds, latency packet loss will be improved by requiring all traffic in the bahamas to go through a local IXP. sounds like a bahamian version of Uncle Sam spying on its citizens to me.
Hey URCA, internet hosting requires electricty, electricity costs money. A bitcoin mine operation is not feasible here because hte profit is literally and perfectly cancelled out by the BPL bill. so why bother. Stick to electricity and things that you theoretically know stuff about. Hosting a website or cloud database in the Bahamas costs more electricity than alternative locations, making it non-competitive. how about spending time talking about solarization of the country and stay out of internet marketing and web commerce.
I call BS on the statement that imports would rise under wto. that is a completely unfounded and baseless. so we'd go from 95% importing everything to 95.5% importing everything. thanks for the laugh Oxford Think Tank. All i care about is if we get US netflix and get rid of Latin American TV channels on Cable Bahamas. and get iTunes music, Amazon prime shows and movies. haven't seen a single episode of GOT because i can stream it in the Bahamas. and i don't want to pirate music, i want to pay the artist i want to support but i can't because the Bahamas is blacklisted. if WTO gets us off that blacklist, then i'm all for it. All hte other crap is just noise in the market place from the "Old Boys" who own all the businesses in the Bahamas. As far as transparency with FDI projects and proposals, most investors i've met want to keep the project quiet, so no one else steals the show. so again, this report is BS and out of touch with reality.
