just make attorneys accountable please. They are holding the country hostage and this is just silly bandaid that will do nothing to help. Holding someone to account for something they have literally zero control over is like talking to a post turtle. Fillup and lost the plot
as far as I understand it, the bill passed the house and maybe the senate? not sure about the senate, we never heard anything further. As far as I know it has not been gazetted and therefore the bill is not law and not in force kind of like that left turn on red plan a few years ago. The esteemed constabulary don't want it to happen because it takes away an easy way to lock someone up with little evidence or reason.
I'm fairly sure the entire criminal prosecution office's conduct and professionalism has been called into questions many many times over the past 40 years. Isn't Ms. Frazier foreign hired here on a work permit? Therefore we could not expect her to know the sordid history of the office. is 10 years waiting for trial really justice? justice delayed is justice denied. As far as I am aware 90% of the delays are due the prosecution office being ill or unprepared, understaffed, underfunded and often sidelined by the cabinet office?
Make the lawyer a requirement in law and make the lawyer blatantly accountable for the transaction. The lazy lawyer who takes plenty time and then has to pay penalty always tells the buyer client they have to pay for the lawyers lackadaisical attitude and slackness. Make lawyers more accountable to their clients with hefty penalties. and require any foreign ownership changes outside of the Bahamas to be disclosed or financial penalty. What happens if a Bahamians company is owned by a foreign and the the foreign company gets sold but that ownership change is not reported and not taxed. Happens all the time and is a glaring loophole that this does little to fix.
Talk about a bullshit bandaid. Maybe, just maybe, it might be useful for ministry of works to have open lines of coms with DIR. The more I see this kind of bollucks the more I realize that the DIR is being run by a complete incompetents who are way out of their depth and just bluffing their way along hoping no one will find out. Let's see, what entity issues building permits and oh maybe those pesky certificates of occupancy. As usual protocol in sunny 242 the innocent law abiders have to pick up the slack from slack govt and shady lawyers. But by all means carry on smartly fillup
