Ssshhh. We all know that the problem is rampant corruption, but to show our pride we must never talk about it, as that would be bad mouthing Bahamas. Better to stick our head in the sand and pretend it doesn't happen then to admit we have a lot of work to do to fix this country.
If not mandatory at least say Government will not be responsible for rebuilding private dwellings should a hurricane hit. I know they don't do much now but they still help a little bit. This way everyone will know the risks they are taking if they decide not to get insurance. Sometimes they win, other times they will lose, but it is up to them.
Whilst i agree on some parts, i disagree on Government becoming landlords downtown. One of the issues downtown is that no one wants to be here as all the Government offices makes downtown too busy (parking for the registrar is next to impossible). Move the Government buildings out of downtown, and those that you don't need to visit can be moved to family islands to increase movement out of Nassau. Start with the small ones and watch it grow. One of the biggest issues is Government can't look after their buildings so they buy a building (normally to help out the owner who needs to sell it so they get over the top money) then run it into the ground and then have to rent from another landlord at top dollar (who is known to them). Anyway whatever they do something needs to change. Also to point out i Believe Ansbacher is owned by the Government.
Government has plenty of buildings they don't use which they could use. problem is they never maintain them and it ends up costing us more then if they entered into renting (Both Bain buildings, Churchill building, and many others). If they could maintain them i would agree they should use them, until then nope (though they should negotiate a better rent)
I don't like coalition governments, but would prefer where if you don't get 50% of the vote then people are able to put their second choice down until someone gets 50% .
The orders are being extended so that companies are not made to either pay severance or re-hire people. Government knows that will be a nail in the coffin for many companies which would make a quicker recovery highly unlikely. Hopefully Government is able to provide better support during these times. The orders are no doubt also being extended for crime reasons and so that the PM has the ability to lock us down if he needs to again.
They probably did that due to the fact that in the 80s they tried to help grow the agriculture of The Bahamas, but that didn't work (remember the stories of the cows in Andros), so they realized there was no point in doing that again.
