Its not up to them to provide the cost benefit analysis, it is up to the oil drillers to do that. They need to show why this country should go ahead with it. And they should not just show a number but show how they got to that figure. But they won't as they know it doesn't make economic sense.
I didn't say enough oil in Trinidad to enrich us, i said in Bahamas. Please show me the data that shows the oil will be able to keep all those currently employed in the tourist industry employed .
They need to open up, if both parents are lucky enough to work they will need the children to go back to school. If its unsafe for school children (who are the least at risk) then it is unsafe for all of us.
They are not saying don't use oil completely. But as you think we should drill please show me proof that there is enough oil to enrich us should there be a spill and we don't have tourists come nor will our fisheries survive. If there is then thats fine lets do it. If not then do you really think its worth the risk?
Of course there is money in it, just not the stupid amounts being said. Mr. Bain says that we should get $7,000 a ton, whilst i can go online and buy it for $4-500 a ton. And that is after all the expenses you just mentioned have been taken into account. So the profit is not $7,000 as Mr. Bain states. Sure we could charge $7,000, but no one will be buying it.
The plan is as it always has been. put our head in the sand and every now and then take it out and have a look. if it looks good then back to normal, if not then its head in sand time again.
Why would someone want to book a holiday here if they are not allowed onto the beach at the weekends? Until that is straight and people believe the Government when they say they won't go back, people may not risk coming here. So well done Government, you have not let people know what the criteria is for when you will lockdown or open up, instead letting a one man band decide on a whim. If i was a tourist i would not risk it.
