Umm if the company pays for it, by extension this means the consumers will pay for it. There isn't a magical tree that will pay for it. Same as one day we are all going to have to pay for the constant ineptitude of our governments.

Government needs to decide what message it wants to put out. On the one hand you have them desperate for FDI which will naturally lead to work permits. On the other they say they want to get rid of work permits. So which one is it. I know one thing, in the financial industry whilst the black listing hurts, off the cuff statements from Government members on immigration will do more to let a potential investor decide Cayman, BVI or others are a better choice then anything else. The Government needs to all be on the same page and then go with it, and realize things they say to local people and local press make its way onto the internet and therefore the world.
On the issue with cooks, if there are no work permits issued, then raid those restaurants and deport those who are working without the correct work permits AND throw the employer into jail until a large fine has been paid. if you don't do that ain't nothing going to change.

Minnis is using 1 of the 3 items all Governments use when things are going bad for them. This time it is the foreigner, other times it is whitey and others the gays. This is just trying to drum up support for him. Remember it wasn't long ago he told all illegals to leave by the end of December ( i think 2017 or 18). What happened in January? Nothing. I expect nothing will happen again here.

It appears from some comments that it is OK what Nygard is accused of doing if you believe someone who doesn't like him is doing bad as well. If what he is accused of doing is true then there should be no support for him. As a note it is not this FNM Government doing this but the US so its not Bahamian Politics.

But if they lose $100k then after a while they close and where would you shop? We used to be able to shop at City market but they made losses so thats now gone. There has to be a balance, people are in business to make a profit. But as always if you want feel free to open a company and make a loss. let me know how it goes in a couple years time

Actually he did mention some of the few good stuff that they have done. It appears that the landfill is being fixed, which is more then was done during the whole time PLP were in power, this will benefit the people of Tall Pines probably more then most areas. In addition if the new power plant does what it is meant to and we get a summer of hardly any power cuts they will be able to point to that, which is yet again more then what the PLP did. We all know there is a lot of bad with this Government but anyone from the past Government is not going to be able to do any good.

The fact that the Commission rate is fixed at 6% and 10% is ridiculous. Every year real estates agents say Government should cut what it takes from the sale of land in order to spur growth in real estate sales, but they never talk about them receiving reduced commission. There is no incentive in this country to acquire a dilapidated house and do it up to sell as you will not be able to make a return on your investment with all the fees you are charged.

Yet again why are we still on this. Yes government can make merchants charge for the bag, and yes a merchant does not have to provide an alternate. I fully expect come the outright ban that the same people complaining are going to complain when the stores increase prices to be able to provide alternates (a plastic bag costs less then a cent the alternate are well over that so if they provide alternates there will be an increase in the cost of items).

AS the above two posted have said the only way to reverse the change is opening the economy. This is never going to happen so expect the continue decline.
