The fact that this is still an ongoing issue shows that we as a country won't change. A different article asks what can be done to stop the brain drain. One way is to actually do something that would make the country better. However that won't happen unless those in power can see a personnel benefit to them (and no the country being better is not one of them). Unfortunately i suspect banker is right as to why this is still allowed to go on.
You won't get the $400-500 million spent in south florida over here if the services are the same. I ahve heard too many stories of people going in for routine surgeries only to have to be sent out of the country due to gross negligence. And then nothing happens. I along with most people who can afford it will continue going overseas until that stops.
Whilst i think publix etc would easily beat Super Value if they wanted to, why haven't they come already. I thought City market was owned by a foreign company before Tiger. Wouldn't that mean foreign companies can enter over here? Or was that a one off?
I do not think what they did is right, and i do not have any loyalty to either party. I vote based on who i think will be best for the country (well who would screw it up the least), which sometimes has been one colour and other times another. What i said was they have realised they have the authority to do these things and all they have to do is say they felt it was the right choice. Then nothing illegal done. Take that softball/ baseball stadium, a 5,000 seater that is a waste of money. It will never be full, but its a way of paying off one of their cronies and they haven't done anything illegal.
Politicians have realised as long as they signed off on paying X company a large amount of money, although unethical it is not illegal. This way they can easily fleece the taxpayers and have no worries about every being charged. Govt should be forced to be transparent and let everyone know any agreement they enter into, what the deliverables are and how much so we can all judge for ourselves.
If anyone is caught destroying essential infrastructure on purpose they should throw the whole book at them, up to charging them with treason. Clean water is a basic necessity as such whoever is doing this (be it a WSC employee or others) are putting all at risk and should be dealt with accordingly. However we've been through plenty of these spats between unions and Govt to know that a compromise will be found (normally where the union leaders get more) and then it will all be forgotten about as carnival coming.
If they could make sure that there was a reliable, safe public transport and reasonably priced safe taxis at night i would push them to ban drink driving. Problem is i wouldn't be able to go out for a few drinks with what we have now.
AS always we complain about our society being violent and then demand our children get the belt whenever they step out of line. Check the countries which have abolished corporal punishment and see their levels of crime compared to ours. But that doesn't matter we like to beat children as we think if you spare the rod spoil the child. Oh well don't worry, even though one day that child will grow up.
Good news if it works out, but lets not beat about the bush. This took probably $20 million of our dollars to occur, as well as what other incentives they give going forward. Guess the buyer will hope they've weeded out the bad worker with the separation package.
