So what he is saying is we are getting shafted by most leases and this one is the only reasonable one. Surely he should tell the people who entered into this $90 a square foot lease and with who? But we a joke country so that won't happen. No doubt it is to some connected person, either FNM or PLP.
Its a hard sell because just his year your Government added a 4.5% increase in expense to most Bahamians. This meant they spent less. You have now said they will also take home 2% of their salary up to $500 a year less. For the companies who have already seen a decline in sales thanks to VAT you have added a minimum expense of $500 per employee to their wage bill. What will this mean, well firstly no company will give pay rises from now until they know what is going to happen and then for the first few years as they swallow this increase in their wage bill. Secondly employees will be worse off and will therefore spend less meaning a downward spiral on sales. I agree in national health, however the way Government wastes money i am not sure if i can trust them. This scheme will cost $100 million a year they say, will they should have used the money from that Hotel in Freeport to fund it for a year to show us how it will work.
We are a success in spite of then PLP and FNM. All the people in both parties have enriched themselves whilst in power at the expense of the people. The most shameful part of that is the people they were meant to help the most are the ones they have let down the most.
Why does the tribune not tell us what the cost of each deal would be. They keep saying with Town Centre Mall it is $12 per foot, is this per month or year? Then they say town centre Mall is 203,000 square foot, but i assume that includes Cost rite, Furniture plus and other stores. If thats the case then how much are they renting? Finally how much was the old City market meant to cost in the long run. Once those two figures are out then we can see which makes a better decision. But as usual we the taxpayers will not be told this.
they should just give a figure out for how much the 5 years will cost. By the time the 5 years are up they should have been able to build a new post office. The good news is it doesn't need to be big as only someone who can't get online needs them. Any bills and bank stuff you can get online, sending packages use DHL or other freight forwarders, want to send a letter, don't
So your 20 million was a guess. Well the Phils Building would be $50 million, i based this on a guess too, using the cost of other new builds the Government has done on Thompson. So the $20 million guess form you is better then my $50 million guess.
So due to a conflict of interest the Government should spend more money and rent elsewhere, no matter what the additional cost would be?. I take it that they should also state in the lease that the landlord is under no circumstances allowed to run for political office nor give finances to any party as this too would be a conflict of interest. There is no conflict if you recuse yourself from the decisions AND whoever does make the decision can show that it was the best of the choices available .
So let me get this straight. The Government should not rent from Brent even if the location he has is the better option because it seems wrong? This is silly thinking. When you compare Town Centre to the old City market, Town Centre wins hands down. It won't cost as much to convert (the building is there and open), There is more parking, there are other stores in the location meaning the landlord has to keep the place clean for them as well as the post office. This is one of those decisions which actually makes sense (unlike that silly Gladstone road one).
Now there are plenty of other Government buildings that are rented which shouldn't be, but this is probably the quickest and cheapest option to sort out that post office
