If the hotel could be successful the private sector would have bought it. Whats going to happen now is all Bahamians will have to fund a hotel in freeport until the Government can find someone to buy it at a large loss. The fact is that tourists don't want to go to Freeport. They should have dealt with the port and told them if they don't do something to save the hotels then the Government will provide incentives to get the rest of Grand Bahamas going and leave Freeport to its fate. What they are doing now is a waste of money.

You have said that more should be given to certain areas and then said they should take the money from areas not benefiting the Bahamian people, but have not said what areas this should be. I am sure whatever area is chosen there will be some Bahamian people who cry out. On the issue of school uniform assistance, of course it should be means tested. Why should i struggle to pay taxes to fund school uniforms for those who can afford it. Also maybe those who can not afford it should consider only having one child instead of many. I and many people i know chose to limit the number of kids we have based on what we can afford, one of those reasons we can't afford the first, second or third is due to the taxes we pay for Government to spend on those who are having kids all the time.

Why? Wasn't this deal reviewed at the cabinet level? If it is a bad deal then the cabinet members should go.

“O**ne of the challenges Bahamasair faces is this whole aspect of summer time, July and August and then late November and December. That’s really the payday for Bahamasair, the boom months. Those months normally carry us for the lean months. "**

But it doesn't carry them for the lean months. The Bahamain taxpayer does. This company has not made money for decades and still this happens.

Dawes says...

Ha ha this is the perfect story to keep Bahamians afraid, its got the rich, the white and the foreigners all in one. At the end of the day if the house is only occupied by the owner for 1 day of the year and otherwise vacant then it is owner occupied. If they live in it for 364 days of the year and rent it out for 1 day it is a commercial house. They should therefore tax the owner occupied at 1% and the commercial at the 2% rate they said. As to the cap of $50,000, at 1% that is for a $5 million house, don't think there is much more over that, but if so then increase the cap to $75,000 this year and say this cap will increase every 2 years by X amount (be it a $ figure or inflation). Whatever you do, do not go in guns blazing only to realise you are shooting blanks and then change your mind as the Government has done. As that only makes the country look stupid.

Dawes says...

No if you want $1,500 or less you should use the ATM. If you want more (like the $8,000 you mention) then you go to the teller. They are just trying to force people to not use the tellers as much so they can downsize staff more. Mind you i try to make sure i never have to visit the teller as the lines are so long

Dawes says...

If the hotel hasn't worked up to know there is no point in Government owning it. There has to be an underlying reason hotels don't work in Freeport, if they don''t fix that we are just going to have another money sucking corporation being paid for by the Bahamian people.

Dawes says...

From the article on the hotel in Freeport, this $100m below target is going to be gone real soon.

Agree with sickened. I have family overseas and tell them not to send any mail or parcels via regular mail, if they must then use UPS or the like. I also now do all my banking and utilities online so i am close to not needing a post box. What will be the most annoying factor will be the one item in my mail box at year end will be the bill for the post box.
