Dawes says...

Nothing and thats why nothing will change. We do not value life over here so every year we lose a couple of men to these sort of accidents.

Condolences to the mans family. Unfortunately nothing will change as we will never bring in correct health and safety in our work places as life is too cheap in this country.

Dawes says...

Justice must be served, and as such there should be a full impartial investigation of all the police shootings and in a reasonable time frame (not years). If the police are at fault they should be held accountable, however if the young man is at fault then they should be exonerated. Either way justice must be seen to be done, as all these police shootings are currently doing is sowing discontent in the population as no one sees the outcomes of the coroners court and are therefore starting to not trust the justice system of the land.

The problem is no one really wants to invest in Freeport as they must not think it makes financial sense. So currently they are negotiating with Government for tax breaks to a point where they think it will work. Government of course is broke so can't give too much away. Wynn is a big company and no doubt is able to manage more then one new project at a time (its revenue is $4.4 billion so its bigger then our Government), so the fact that it has been able to move on with the Nassau project whilst still discussing Freeport is no worry (they are different types of projects anyway). If Fred thinks the hotel makes sense he can always put his money in and open it up.

Dawes says...

All my life real property has not been paid by large numbers of people. If a smart person was in charge they would work out what the problem is and change that so payment was made (even if that meant a lower figure per person). But no those in charge of us cry every year about the lack of payment and do nothing, except having the occasional penalty free payment deals, which only make more people say it ain't worth paying real property each year.

Dawes says...

How about a no. If this is all due to unfunded public sector liabilities then make them funded. I fund my pension and have my NIB taken out. Time to do the same to the civil servants. If they want to go on strike let them and just lock the door when they leave as it would better to be without them then having to pay the amounts recommended.

Dawes says...

Hey this gives them a good reason to borrow some more money to build a state of the art parliament that would last 10 years at most.

Dawes says...

Because its not their money they don't care what it costs as they can cream a lot off from the side. In addition they know that we Bahamians do not go into the whole protest and riot thing and just accept what is happening. Sure we may get all riled up over the latest hot news item, but that will go away quick enough. And if it doesn't they'll just mention getting tough on foreigners (Haitians in particular) and that will shut most people up to get behind them.

Dawes says...

Not sure i agree. If you look back over the last 10-40 years of those in power in this country a large number came out of Government High. The real question is what happened that made this change. As i can tell you are from Long Island, everyone knows that that island has one of the best Government school in the Bahamas (NGM). Why is it that this school does well and others (mainly in Nassau) don't?

Then again maybe you are right, those who went to Government High in the old days now have their kids in St. Andrews and the like and therefore don't care as much about the Government schools.

THis is a bunch of crap How can one of the reasons for the need for this loan be the increase in fuel prices when we pay a fuel surcharge which negates that.
