In the 1980's Bahamas had the highest per captia AIDS rate in the world. So we can't blame Carnival. One of the reasons for this was the stigma we put on homosexuals (from the public and the Church), which meant that many men lead a fake life, being married whilst still being homosexual. This was one of the reasons for the spread of AIDS as the man would get it and then pass it on to his wife who may or may not have been sweethearting. If people were allowed to be who they wanted to be then this number would never have got so high. In addition providing sex education is not going to end the world and in fact might actually save a number of people.

But its all of us that are to blame. We use the Styrofoam when we go out, drive our cars, have the ac on, take flights etc etc. So instead of blaming those in power make a change yourself. Do not have the AC on at home (even better come off of BEC and be like in the olden days), walk to work, don't eat food in packages and so on and so on.
The fact of the matter is if there is Oil in the waters then we may as well get it out and the benefits., or should we just ban any oil products in our country and oil passing through our country?

Sarkis didn't invest $4.3 billion, most of that was from the bank which he then was unable to pay back, as such the bank took it. This is also what happened with Sol Kerzner except it was Brookfield who took it (he got into debt with opening his Dubai hotel which unfortunately was opening just as the recession hit). Sarkis and CCA's issues are aside from Sarkis and the bank.

More Job Growth in the private Sector. It needs plenty Job Cuts in Government. One of the reasons the private sector struggles is due to the taxes they pay to keep the bloated civil service employed. Until this is changed the private sector will continue to struggle and the country will continue to get in debt until it all collapses. If the civil service jobs are needed people wouldn't mind. but we have all experienced how overstaffed these departments are, with people who either won't or can't do their job in a timely manner.

The post office is nailing its own coffin. Most people don't send letters anymore as you can't rely on it, and then businesses are now moving away from mailing their statements as they can't trust it. Soon the only thing you will get in your mail box will be Govt letters and your post box rental fee notice. This would normally lead to a business being shut down or servery reduced in size. But as its only idiots like us the public that will pay for it, i expect them to increase its size.

Only way we can do that is if we pay off our debt, which is more then the IMF is asking. As we currently owe billions we are the ones who are being told how far to jump.

AS the article doesn't say, what is the current fee structure for these vessels. As i am sure (well i hope) that it wasn't free before.

True but at the same time if they are gambling then they dont need the welfare.

This is a silly article. Our native snakes are good for the environment as they keep the rat numbers down as well as do other things. As everyone knows we have a problem with these snakes being killed when they are found. Instead of trying to educate people that we shouldn't kill them the Tribune writes an article made up of complete guess work, which would only lead to more snakes being killed.

Whilst the above may need to happen realistically it won't. What would the cost of all of these be? At a guess this is also needed on pretty much every major island in Bahamas, so there is no way Government can afford it. Some how Government is going to have to work out a way to enable the islands to be financially able to look after themselves as otherwise nothing will change.
