Bahamas will become a Republic when a majority want it to. Currently there is not and even those who want to are not that concerned (we hear from a few every now and then but nothing much). I do however find it funny that the letter writer wants us to become a Republic and get rid of the privy council and replace it with the Caribbean Court. Both of these still show that we are unable to do it ourselves. Why shouldn't the top court in this land be a Bahamian court? Surely a nationalist would want that?
Yes corporation tax would be a good thing for many companies. Not for Government though. Take the last 2 years, many have run at a loss so they would not only pay 0 in tax but once they start to make a profit they would be able to offset the tax they should pay with the losses. Currently those companies have to pay business license so Government is getting something (although at a much smaller amount). The Government would also need to hire many more qualified accountants to be able to police this, so this would lead to an increase in Government spending and reduced income during times like these.
It was a waste of money when it was first planned and is a waste of money now. We have numerous stadiums sitting around doing nothing except costing us money. Do they really expect that stadium to be even half filled ever?
And you can email and then sit and wait for who knows how long to get your bill. They know they can't use the post office as that's collapsed. Bunch of failures for too long and we keep electing people who keep the same useless civil service there.
Its not just high ends. I have heard of many people who were on the cusp of paying real property and now being given double. As a lot say show them how they can get their house sold for that and they will. Its easy to say make the high end home pay more, but this is also hurting the middle class.
Can the reporter not understand that when the FS says 80,000 homes, he does not mean 80,000 real property paying homes. He means thats the total. You then need to find out how many actually pay tax and from there work out the % that has increased.
I reckon the letter writer is the same person who keeps writing these type letters every couple weeks. Probably even Alan1. Obviously they do not know the country as only a few weeks back the hotels were saying they expected a bumper season (pre Omincron). We haven't changed our requirements for entry so this can not be the case. I can only assume that whoever this letter writer is does not like to be put out. I know many travelling into and out of the US and no problems with getting tests to get back, so it can't be that hard. Canada is different and i would have no problems if we required Canadians to meet the same requirement we have to when we go there.
People who have historically paid should just not pay this time. Wait for the next real property tax incentive where they make sure those who don't pay get more benefits then those who do. Doesn't make any sense doing the right thing here.
Why do we keep seeing these letters. If someone in Canada wants to come here take a test up to 3 days before and come, whether you are vaccinated or not, and you can be on the beach or at the bar within an hour of landing. If my family wants to go to Canada only those vaccinated can do that after all the necessary paperwork. Those not vaccinated (any child under 11 for sure over here) would have to quarantine for 10 days. So stop your moaning, you have it a lot easier coming this way then we do.
