Dawes says...

On one page the Government is asking the private sector to hire more of their people, on this they are saying wages will be going up. Business will now not hire anyone unless absolutely necessary, and at the same time begin to look at reducing any waste until they get more clarity on Government plans . A lot of business have been stuck in the catch 22 of having 3 people to do 2 jobs but due to the wage this was OK. Now if the wage went up a silly amount, then it would be 2 to do 3 with the expected increase in productivity. Will be interesting times.

They don't actually care what the people think of them. They know that there is a % who will support them no matter what and if the other side is bad then they will get back in. case in point is Birdie below, no matter how bad PLP have been he still loves them. Then there will be people who support FNM no matter what (Evans the letter writer). All along its only the people they claim to care about being destroyed.

You keep going on about west palm beach, the only time they make more money on the high end properties is when it is over $6 million (which is our top rate). I have agreed that we should not have a limit on real property. however to think that will raise a lot of money is nonsensical. So how do you propose to raise all this serious money without all those areas disappearing? What taxes do you think we should implement.?

I will assume that when talking about wealthy foreigners you are talking about the gated areas out west. Those areas which have a large number of restaurants then the east. I take it that if all the foreigners stopped spending you feel these restaurants will stay open, as they will not be affected. In addition each home has to have been built (unless the magically appear), who builds them? I agreed that property taxes should increase, but i disagree with your view that we gain nothing else from them. In addition if someone is a second home owner but not working here, how are you going to tax their income? That is earned elsewhere?

Mr. Allen shows his ignorance in this letter. Although i agree with increasing property taxes, that is all that can be increased. Also to say the only benefit is the Fillipnos and maids and gardeners, misses the fact these people will live in homes built by Bahamians, eat in restaurants staffed and owned by Bahamians, shop in supermarkets owned and staffed by Bahamians, and on and on. If you are going to write a letter at least be honest in it.

Its is false to believe that the privy council is stopping the country from hanging. What they have done is say we must say what the worst of the worst is. If we do that then the privy council will not stop a hanging. In reality our Governments do not want to hang due to the publicity. If they wanted to we would.

And they made a profit of $1.9 billion in 2019 whilst we made a loss

Dawes says...

Of course they do. ITs just another idiotic thing our Governments do. Lets make sure only those who don't do what they are meant to are rewarded, whilst the others well tough. Then they will promise to get strict on all delinquent taxpayers form now on but we know they are toothless.

Dawes says...

Thats because most left the country due to mismanagement by PLP and FNM

Dawes says...

Initially they say they don't provide much, then mention all the constructions , landscaping, etc that they use. Yes they can do more business here, but if it wasn't for them construction would have serious issues, so would landscaping, and all those high end restaurants out west. As one commentator mentioned, if you want them to set up more businesses here, make it easier for them to bring in who they want. Over time more and more Bahamians will rise through the ranks to get those higher jobs. But if they never bring them here initially they never will have the chance.
