Question, does this mean that places which are mandated by the emergency law to test will now have to pay for the staff to be tested? Or is it just places that choose to say they need the test but are not mandated to have it?
Umm the letter writer does understand that the 15% is only on global businesses. So the local ones will not be affected. Though i do agree there is scope for an increase in taxes paid, but only if the money is used for better services of which Bahamas air is not one. IF as the letter writer said it is only needed for island hopping then it does not need to go to the US, Freeport, Abaco and many other islands where private airlines at no cost to the Bahamian people are already doing this. If our average interest payments are 5% (and they are probably higher), Bahamasir costs us $30 million in interest payments alone due to the losses it has made (I wonder if this is taken into account when their subvention is announced?).
I never understand why these unions have never thought of operating a business on their own. They make it sound so easy to make plenty money. Yes i am sure that the hotels can bring back more, however they are no doubt trying to pay off the losses they sustained during the worst of Covid, and could also be worried that the normal slow months happen, in which case they will not need all. Strange that the union is saying the want redundancy, but they don't want the emergency powers to end. It is my understanding that once the emergency powers end, companies will have no choice but to make a decision. Now on the idea of staff rotating so all get to work, if possible that would be great, however i don't know if that is possible.
Lol Many articles about how good the real estate market is, but of course we can't tax them more. As with anything if the market is so bullish you can increase the costs. Real property needs to have no limit (though it can be gradually increased each year for 5 - 10 years). If you can afford a $10 million or more property then you can afford more then $60,000 in real property fees.
I'm really just pointing out that whilst the Anglican and Catholic church is a European Christian religion, there are other Christian religions from Africa which are older then those two, but you seem to be able to write them off too.
