John, just read some of Pindling;s early speeches and you'll see where he tells the Bahamian people they will no longer have to work and toil in hard labour, as he has set them free. No more working in the fields or building the nation on the backs of the poor black Bahamians. With that mindset, how long do you think it took before Haitians were only too happy to take jobs that Bahamians were now too good for, and refused to do? Look at the average farm worker, construction worker, landscape worker and tell me how many Bahamians are working? Like I said, we created this mess with our own idealistic mindset and so have to take some responsibility for it. Instead, we howl like we know nothing about nothing. Stupidity and looking the other way is something we're very good at!
To all the Bahamians howling about the immigration problems -- who among you is willing to take responsibility for them????? This is a problem of our own making. Just thank Papa Pindling who told the Bahamian people that they would no longer have to do manual labour, to toil in the fields or get their hands dirty. So the Haitians were only too happy to take the jobs these new status Bahamians thought beneath them. So what are you howling about? This is OUR problem, Bahamians!
Jean Rony is home where he belongs. Give him his paperwork and let's hope he doesn't sue the government for his mistreatment by the thugs in immigration.
Why do our MPs, who work for us, think they can behave like unruly grade school children? If you can't abide by the House rules, then maybe you should step down or reconsider if politics are for you. So sick of the bad behaviour (both parties) when they should be conducting business on behalf of the Bahamian people.
The PLP are terrified their hand in all this will come out. The deals and the corruption will be their undoing. They will say anything to keep vilifying Izmirlian for fear of their own dirty hands being exposed.
A judgment in the US can be lodged within the Bahamas and assets claimed. Doesn't mean they can get them. But as Banker points out, CCA certainly does have significant assets in the US, so Mr. Izmirlian certainly does stand to gain if he can prove the fraud -- which shouldn't be too hard to do.
Deceptive number spinning here -- tourism numbers were down in 2017 because of the hurricane damage in the Bahamas, and our numbers are up this year because many people who were booked to go to other places in the Caribbean have rebooked here because of the hurricane damage to those other places. So we cannot sit on our laurels and talk about how it was our own marketing efforts that have made the increase.
What we can do is make sure those people who are coming here because their original destination of choice was affected by hurricanes have such an excellent time here that next time they might actually choose to come here instead!
We all know where ti came from, so the government needs to pull the resort's operating licence until it is cleaned up. The resort already has gotten so many concessions out of the government that they are in no hurry to do things right. But if they are closed and not allowed to reopen until it's cleaned up, how quickly do you think they'd get it done?
C'mon government, we had great hopes with the new Environmental Minister, and now he's nowhere to be seen or heard. Get on with it, please!
The government should make an effort to collect -- using whatever means that are legally available to them. If the person genuinely cannot pay, then that is another matter, but I find it hard to believe there aren't people who can't afford to pay after getting an education -- there are jobs out there if you really want one! It may not be the one you want, but there are jobs.
Are you seriously telling me that someone can't come up with $10 month to start paying back their loan? Bet all these people have cars, cell phones and other assets, so it's not like they are broke. Enough sucking the public teat!
