Mr Miller, YOU should have initiated audits in your own department -- given what we know now. As for why an audit for WSC, maybe it's because the Bahamian people deserve answers as to how the PLP spent all that money during their term in office. And then there's the mystery of where a whole lot of money is missing or tiefed! (And yes, not paying your electic and water bills is considered "tiefing")

Birdie, as always, your shortsightedness (and those like you) are the reason our country never seems to get ahead. By your logic, we should deny children schooling because of petty government nonsense and overcrowding. What do you propose we do with those same unschooled children in 10 or 20 years when they have no education and resort to crime because they have no basic marketable skills? Oh wait, that was the PLP's vision -- keep them ignorant and stupid so they would vote PLP.

Those days are gone, Birdie! Thank heavens.

The basic UN charter guarantees education to every child -- why can't we?

No doubt half the nitwits there had no idea why they were there!

The PLP lost, Mr. Mitchell. Accept it and move on you deluded old cow.

We Rise ought to be going around the neighbourhoods helping people get ready for Hurricane Irma instead of wasting their energy on a fool's errand.

When student loans are handed out, they should include a contract that states that if the loans aren't paid back on the stated date, that their wages and or assets will be garnished/seized. Tying up the court system with more cases and expense makes no sense.

When will people stop looking for handouts and take responsibility? So much a Bahamian mentality these days by so many -- it has to stop!

Mr. Harreld and BPL aren't doing a very good job at keeping the lights on. A perfectly clear day, not rain, no storms, and we've been out of power for 6 hours now. What excuse will you use today?

DillyTree says...

Fred Mitchell is only trying to stir the pot and desperately try to stay relevant. He's a has been and should have been a never been. Sad pathetic little man just doesn't get it.

As a lawyer (granted, a poor one), Fred Mitchell should know that civil servants serve at the pleasure of the government. They can be recalled, laid off, posted to other positions, etc. and there's not a damn thing they can do about it -- except resign. For too long now, the PLP have lost sight of the fact that the government works for the people. They paid the price for that massive error in judgement in May 2017.

Now, please, Fred Mitchell, don't you have to go and do your verification exercise like a good little public servant?

When Mr. Shane Gibson shows the Bahamian people some respect, maybe he'll get some in return. Bishop Ellis should be ashamed himself for hanging Gibson's criminal behaviour on the people and not on Mr. Gibson himself. Doesn't the Bible teach anything about taking responsibility for one's actions?

Despite converting to Islam some 10 years after joining the force, Constable Bain certainly would have been well-versed in the grooming regulations. Using religion as an excuse to be allowed exception to those rules should not be allowed. He is a public servant and as such, needs to follow the rules of the public service. And particularly in military or quasi-military organizations, uniformity is essential to morale and good discipline. Don't like it -- find another job.

It sounds as if accommodations had been made for him to be able to practice his religion, such as time for daily prayers and the like, so he cannot say he was discriminated against for his religion.

What will happen if Rasta police officers insist they be allowed to smoke weed as it's part of their religion? Or if officers refuse to work on Saturdays or Sundays because of their religious faith? Let's not open a Pandora's Box, as the previous poster suggests.

This country has enough serious issues to deal with without clogging the courts with to beard or not to beard nonsense.

If I were Mr. Davis, I'd be very worried. I'd be asking myself not if, but when, the anti-corruption unit will be knocking on my door. The cheek and brass of these PLPs continues to amaze me. You'd think the lot of them would just fade away, and sit quietly in a corner somewhere, and not want to attract any more attention to themselves after running the Bahamas into the ground.

And we get nothing? Is the good minister serious? Let's check off a few things --

1. We get a per head tax for every passenger brought by the cruise ships -- whether they get off the ship or not.
2. We get docking fees and other fees from the cruise ships on each arrival and departure.
3. Until we clean up our downtown area, stop the hassling and harassing of tourists by local vendors and drug dealers, and have something to offer them, maybe we should get "nothing"!!
