It's the D- masses that voted for Perry and his merry band of corrupt jackals, so not sure who you are railing against here.
For a "political buffoon", I'd say Loretta Butler-Turner has done rather well. It takes courage and determination to go against everything she grew up with in a staunch PLP household and decide to go her own way. Who is the gullible and stupid one?
And if Dr. Minnis really understood the world "democracy", which he seems to use a lot, he would resign as head of the FNM. The Westminster system is quite clear on this, yet somehow in the Bahamas, we seem to like to make up our own rules.
Tal, you do realise that the matter was only a formality -- Dame Margueritte has no option in the matter. She is merely serving as the Queen's representative in the Bahamas. She has absolutely no say in the matter at all.
How about Dr. Minnis do the "honourable thing" and resign? The vast majority of the elected FNM MPs have declared no confidence in his leadership of the party and of the Opposition -- this should be a clue as to his leadership abilities.
I can tell you one thing -- I have always voted FNM, but if Minnis stands for the Kilarney seat, I will vote independent or not at all. He has done nothing for our district and is a whole lot of hot air and can't even speak coherently for the most part. What a delusional loser!
Collect the taxes that are already owed -- that would a big start and would ensure a few million in back taxes - Lady Pindling ring any bells?
Stop rampant government spending and curb corruption. Trim the civil service down to a reasonable size -- so we the taxpayers don't keep paying for dead weight freeloaders installed under the "friends, family and lovers" program.
Sell Bahamasair and privatize all the other utilities no government entity should ever own.
Claim back land and other concessions given to Baha Mar -- the new "owners" did not get the deal, Sarkis Izmirlian did. Let the "new owners" negotiate a new deal -- one in which they pay taxes and don't get huge concessions -- they've already cost us enough with the PLP kowtowing to them and accepting all kinds of backdoor deals (none of which we have ever gotten the truth on)
Then no need to raise any more money -- oh, and use VAT for what it was intended (ie. paying off the national debt of $6.6 million dollars!!!!
Mudda take sic, with a possible Cat 5 storm bearing down on us (and Jamaica), it is NOT time for petty politics. It's a time for ALL Bahamians to step up and look after each other. Save your political bs for another time, please!
I do hope the Bahamas government will also consider similar evacuation flights to the southern islands for those wishing to leave, at it looks as if they are going to get hit hard. Again. And with the latest shift to the east, there will be no mountains of Cuba to break up this big and dangerous storm, so it's possible for there to be a massive Cat 5 on top us by Tuesday.
With so many other pressing needs in the Bahamas - the least of which are people who are still without roofs or running water in some of the southern islands after last year's hurricane Joaquim - this money being spent on a street party is the last thing we need. And to imply that it was never put on for profit is a joke -- some profited handsomely from this debacle, but as usual, the losers are the Bahamian people!
