Somebody paid for all those t-shirts, and from the look of those marching, they surely didn't buy them. Most look clueless as it is. Poor ignorant masses being exploited -- again.
As for not being black in Lyford Cay, doesn't Mr. Smith know there are blacks with homes living in Lyford Cay? And many others visit friends who live there as well, and belong to the Lyford Cay Club, so stop bringing the race card into this. Nygard is using the people to get his own way.
Why does Leslie Miller think that because he is doing his job, that somehow allows him greater leeway than the average citizen? Does he think he needs a medal for doing his job? One might argue that he's not doing a very good job, given the latest BEC woes, but to use the fact that he is "doing his job" as an excuse for his questionable behaviour is most disingenuous.
Most legitimate business people do not have cash in those amounts just laying around. That is what banks are for. Leslie cannot be so ignorant as to not understand people's concerns.
As an ex-smoker, I am completely for a ban on indoor smoking. It is disgusting at restaurants or in the workplace where you cannot get away from the smokers. There are considerate smokers who have never needed this ban and who smoke where they do not bother other people, then there are others who need to have the ban in place.
With the proven health concerns of second-hand smoke, this seems like a total no-brainer.
Will this non-smoking ban also apply to the city dump?
Here's a solution. Let Nygard buy up all the derelict properties in Bain Town and let him move there. He could have a whole village made for his beloved people to live next to him and he could pay them each $40/day to stand around and cheer at his every word. T-shirts would be available for purchase and optional.
You may be onto something, Tal. The title needs to be a little catchier though. Or maybe we could just work over the "Who put the pepper in the vaseline" to reflect the general shafting of the Bahamian people by Nygard.
"Supt Rolle said his position is that people ought to learn to respect the established system"
What planet does Supt. Rolle live on? The system is broken. It does not work in its present form. Even the police are fed up, as they arrest crimminals only to have them back on the streets the next day on bail -- free to commit more crimes. And how long does the average court case take just to come to trial? Poliitcs aside (as neither party has the moral high ground here), the system needs to be fixed. No wonder people want to take matters into their own hands.
At this rate, anarchy is just around the corner! March on Bahamaland...
If Nygard is still beating the Bacon drum, then who is using stalling tactics now? This man is a scurge to the Bahamas and should be deported back to Canada immediately. His arrogance and hubris are sickening, as is the pandering done by our current government. Enough is enough.
The vendors want the government to "assist them"? You must be joking. How about them assisting the government by paying their bills. They do not have the God-given (or PLP-given) right to occupy the straw market free of charge -- they pay a measly $35 week in rent (mere pennies in comparison to other retailers on Bay St.) and are complaining?
It is the government's fault for not collecting the rent and letting vendors get into arrears, but ultimately, if the vendors want to be there, they need to pay up!
As an aside, I'm not surprised the straw market is doing poorly. The vendors practically chase the tourists down and fight among themselves for business. It is really unappealing and obnoxious. What tourist wants to come into that environment? Perhaps the Minstry of Tourism can give the vendors a lesson on customer service and not to harrass the tourists!
LOL, general crazy, you wrong on all counts, but that's ok. It's clear I get under your skin. haha. PS. I don't need to work -- I have lots of money! I just enjoy messing with stupid people.
