As the above poster says, there are too many unskilled cowboys operating boats, and many boats lack basic safety gear. A $30 life jacket could have saved this young man's life.
I hope he is found and his family has some closure, but let this not be a "business as usual" incident. Time to talk about boat and jet ski licenses, boat registration and safety inspectiongs, and educating the boating public on safety issues.
The stupidity and ignorance displayed is quite astounding and the reason why the Bahamas will never be more than a third world country anytime soon -- no matter how many Independence Day parades we throw.
Get vaccinated or we will all suffer the consequences. Who wants to go back to shutdowns, no jobs, no tourists and lots of deaths?
Plane flies in from Dominican Republic to avoid being repo'ed there. Plane was US registgered and owned -- probably financed. Pilots get tip that plane is about to be repossessed, so fly out to sompeplace "quiet". Question is if they even cleared Bahamian customs and immigration, but they must have if they were questioned and released.
Enter two enterprising pilots who like the idea of an attractive payday for completing a repo. Someone tipped them off, or perhaps they got information through the RBDF -- who knows. Easy pay day, but things went horribly wrong. Thinking we'll find that flaps were locked for security, but pilots didn't do a proper pre-check. No lift despite using the whole runway.
This takes place on Monday.
Plane not reported stolen until Tuesday, yet plane was due to leave Treasure Cay on Monday.
Seems pretty straightforward what happened. Feel terrible for the families of the pilots, despite some obvious bad choices and lapses in judgement.
Mr. Scott, I am a frequent customer and while I applaud your wish to keep your guests safe, I'd suggest taking the requirement one step further and require ALL of your GUESTS to show proof of a vaccine or negative testing prior to dining.
What's good for the goose...
Let's make this an equal opportunity process than just a one-sided bottom line option. Same requirements for everyone.
The more people vaccinated, the sooner we can get back to "normal". C'mon, let's not be selfish!
Chucky, so what have you done to help poor people out?
You worry about what charity you want to help and let me worry about who I want to help out. And for what it's worth, I do help both animals and children -- both sectors of our society who cannot speak for themselves. And with so many animal haters out there, they need all the help they can get!
As for the limited life expectancy of potcakes, I've heard this rubbish before. Why does this keep perpetuating -- in some cases, by US and Canadian vets who clearly don't know any better? With few exceptions, all the potcakes I've ever been blessed with have lived into the double digits -- in one case 16 years! And they make excellent pets and charming companions.
Think about that, people! Until we change OUR attitudes and educate ourselves on matters that affect our lives and country's best interests, we will continue to be the fools and tools of the government - the one we deserve!
Who wants to come and visit an eco-resort with huge cruise ships off the beach and hordes of people on the beach?
And with our government's shortsighted inability to even look out for Bahamians, why would anyone want to become a partner on land the government owns?
When we, the Bahamian taxpayers, have to foot the airline ticket costs for people to come to the Bahamas, there's something very wrong with our government's negotiating skills.
And these same people, subsidised by you and me, arrive with suitcases of food because they can't afford to even eat in the local restaurants! The don't spend any money with us, so why do we need them?
Tell Sunwing to get lost. We don't need budget crap airlines with budget crap people.
TalRussell, you have a very short and very defective memory -- the so-called "We Hotel" was a fiasco! And the BHC became the vehicle for one of the most corrupt government entities around. It was the personal piggy bank of so many, and certainly not for the Bahamian people!
Pindling and his crooks couldn't manage a damn hotel on dry land, surely you don't think they'd be able to steer a cruise ship in a straight line! Crooked, maybe, but not straight!
