As the owner of several generations of rescue pit bulls, I can tell you it's not the dog -- it's the owner. Good dog, bad owner.
Pit bulls are badly maligned and the myth of their savagery is legendary, but the ignorance and stupidity persists because of equally ignorant and stupid owners who take the very best of a dog and turn it into something awful. The dog's owner should be held fully accountable in this case -- financially, socially and any way that gets the message across. There's no reasons for this tragedy to be repeated time and time again. It's the innocent bystanders and the dogs that suffer. Make this owner fully accountable!!
Fred Mitchell is way past his "sell by" date. Time for him to retire gracefully and pursue his own "activities". Remember, this is the same man who went all over the world at the taxpayer's expense with a large entourage of fellows, and all he came up with was a few thosand sacks of fertiliser -- nowhere near the amount of manure Mitchell himself procuces.
His own racial prejudice fuels his agenda -- so this striking at the colonial past is his MO. Does he still think "Roots" should be played on ZNS at election time? The shortsightedness and blind prejudice fails to register the fallacy of leaving the strength and support of the COmmonwealth. The Bahamas cannot stand alone -- and becoming a piddly replublic will only sacrifice our larger bargaining position for economic and security that we get through belonging to the Commonwealth. Please think about that -- especially with the Chinese on our doorstep. Don't let your biases destroy us further.
Pintard called for unity -- so let's see some bi-partisan work in government instead of just being oppositional. Leader of the Opposition does not mean that his sole job is to oppose the other party, as seems to have been the case for previous adminsitrations!
We are all Bahamians -- so we have to work together to figure it out. The Bahamas faces many challenges, so we need all good minds to work together to get us out of this mess. So, Pintard is free to hold their feet to the fire, but he also needs to work with them to find solutions.
As the Speaker of the House recently pointed out, this is the people's house and there's no room for behaving like unruly children. Respect! (I paraphrase, but you get the point)
150 year lease is absurd. It's as good as giving it away as a land grant. This "contract" needs to be held for review, as giving away prime land is dangerous for so many reasons. Do we even know what the actual terms are, and more importantly, what's in it for the Bahamian people -- other than a few more cleaning and waitering jobs? We continue to be sold off cheaply, and our government doesn't seem to care.
If you've got willing older or at risk people who wish to take the booster shot, why aren't we doing this? Too many people are saying "no" to first shots and the vaccines are just sitting there. Why not use them to further boost protection to those already vaccinated before the protection wears off? Then we ahve even more people vulnerable...
I'm ready for my booster shot, but can't get one because the doses are being saved for people who don't even want a first shot. What sense does that make?
What a joke! Let's get this straight -- you want the very people who already do the lion's share of shoring up the Bahamas economy to do more. And these are the very people who, when donating to the "white" organisations like the Humane Society or the National Trust are somehow villains who they then mock and ridicule. Hahahahahahaha!!!! Good luck with that plea.
How about the Bahamians take responsibility for the MESS we have created and continue to settle for? Why does it always have to be someone else to come and save us from ourselves? Where is our national pride when it really matters? It's not about jumping aroun don Independence Day waving flags -- it's so much more. When will we get it???? Shame on us!
@tribanon, are you really taht dense and ignorant. Who do you think donates millions of dollars to the various children's homes, scholarships, food banks, hurricane relief, old age homes and so many toher worthy causes in the Bahamas? It's those same wealthy, clubby, gated community people you love to hate.
If you want to provide joice boxes and food to children, by all means -- that's your perogative. Some prefer to donate and support animal shelters. It's my money -- what I do with it is my choice -- not yours! And yes, I do donate to all of the above organisations I mention above, so hush up and do your part before you pretend to know what you're talking about! It's people like you that make people not want to donate to two-legged folks. The four-legged ones are way more grateful for the help. So tired of this backward stupidity in this counnty that continues to hold us back from being so much more than we are.
Thank goodness for those "wealthy and politically connected" people. They continue to support and make it possible for the BHS to continue their essential work to assist the animals.
There are just as many ordinary Bahamians who support, volunteer and assist the BHS in so many ways. Thank goodness for them too!
It's the ignorant and disgraceful attitudes of people like the posters above that make the mission even more difficult. Shame on you for trying to take away from those who actually do the hard work and don't sit on their computers demonstrating their ignorance and prejudices for all to see! Why don't you volunteer a few hours at the BHS to help clean up the mess made by these vandals, or offer to walk a dog so it doesn't have to speand 24/7 in a cage?
It would be nice ot know who these airlines are so people can avoid flying with them. All it takes is one person who has not followed protocol to infect an entire plane or cruise ship. While nothing is 100%, the rules exist for a reason. If you're not willing to follow the rules -- stay home!
And that also applies to our local fools who think the rules don't apply to them. This isn't about YOU, folks!
