I live in one of those sparsely populated family islands and once we have passed the 14 day incubation period there is no reason with all ports and airports closed that the lockdown can not be lifted. This ban on public beaches makes no sense here either as I rarely encountered another human being in my excursions to the beach.

What is this clown talking about? People have lost their minds. What happened to the hotel unions providing benefits to their workers who faithfully pay their dues. What happened to individuals saving for a rainy day? It is not the responsibility of government to replace these lost salaries and NIB will be broke in 9 years before paying these extra benefits. Does he want our dollar devalued, we simply can not afford this ? Doing what he recommends would deplete the NIB fund.

We need to extend this shutdown and ensure schools are kept closed, otherwise we risk losing all we have gained and may have a rapid increase in cases.

Lockdown this country! Tourists are not coming anyway. We do not want to be like Italy which had 368 deaths in last 24 hrs. Time is ticking.

Excellent point. This is moral hazard, why pay for insurance if the government is going to pay to help rebuild your house? This is not the role of government and we can not afford afford it, every dollar given away like this has to be paid for with interest. It is simply unsustainable. Most of these person will take these funds and rebuild in the same way, on the same flood prone land and next storm we will be right back where we started except the national debt has increased.

Cry me a river. So much bitching over plastic bags in this country, really explains how we are in such a mess in this country with a mindset like this. You had a year’s warning but you were greedy and dumb and kept ordering a product you know might not be in demand hoping to sell it. You were lazy and slow to adapt to changing circumstances. You were selfish, caring more about profits rather than our environment. We live in a capitalist system, stop asking me a taxpayer to pay for your incompetence and if you go out of business someone else will take your place who knows how to run a business.

I am all for better police training and an increase in salary so that we have a more professional police force. However, given our current limitations the police deserve kudos for putting themselves in harms way and performing as well as they do. This country is awash in Illegal handguns and even more powerful weapons. Isn’t it curious that in this article there was no mention of the type of weapon seized, and the police declined to comment when asked by other journalists? There are social media reports as to the nature of the weapon involved. Footage of the scene showed a swat team there. The police were obviously prepared and acted according to intelligence they had. When in some circumstances the police are outgunned it is no wonder they respond with what seems an excessive and unnecessary amount of rounds.

I live in seemingly peaceful Long Island, and I have seen the police come to greet the mailboat with sub-machine guns, they know the types of weapons that are illegally in this country.
