Wake up Bahamians. Mr. Davis and this government do not give a damn about you. Watch his actions and do not listen to his hot air. Reform after numerous delays will come at the earliest a year late. During this time the prime minister's residence has been powered by solar and the deputy prime minister has not had his power disconnected, but over 5000 homes in this country have no power! That is scandalous and shameful. That is HOMES not people, households with many people suffering from these callous uncaring leaders. They do not give a damn about Bahamians. Until the masses wake up nothing will change. What should be done is the first 100 - 150 kwhr of electricity per month should be free for every household in this country. That way every family at a minimum can keep a refridgerator , lights, and fans on. People could live with dignity. Then every bill above the 100 minimum must be paid in full every month or be disconnected, no exceptions. No one could amass then an outstanding balance that they can not pay. No one has an excuse anymore. This is a simple, just, solution.
Eastern gate, I did not forget the jailhouse wedding, just that the post was so long. There are other incidents and with each one less and less credibility. The commissioner seems to believe we forget but we don't. It is just so depressing and painful to hear him speak, you can tell he is conflicted and wants to do what is right but is constrained. If he did what was right and we had real transparency and accountability he would be gone the next day and I doubt his replacement would be any better. Really depressing I wish he would just avoid the press and save us and himself the embarrassment.
Sadly, because I believe he is an honest , talented man, Commissioner Greenslade has very little credibility left. He said after a high ranking police officer apparently leaked photos of a particularly gruesome murder over two years ago, that after an internal investigation he would "let the chips fall where they may" in punishment for the leaks. Since then he has not said a word about it. Who did it? What was the reprimand? We deserve to know! Then he told us he had a plan and a capability to enforce the law and shut down illegal webshops. In the 18 months since the gambling referendum not a single person has been arrested and brought before the courts. So why should I believe him when he says crime is down?.... I don't. These statistics are kept like a national secret, when they should be complied by an independent body and published regularly free from law enforcement and political interference. Crime is up, we all know it, and until we have a Commissioner who follows through on his word and enforces the law it will get no better.
Okay, now we are beginning to see a little progress.... Now can the deputy prime minister Brave Davis who has oversight for B.E.C call the Chairmanof B.E.C., Mr. Leslie Miller and threaten to disconnect his delinquent businesses so we can get another cheque by tomorrow?
"This marks the fourth time the government has delayed the constitutional vote." Can this government do anything right?, anything on time? It is utter incompetence and a failure of the bahamian people. I believe in these gender equality amendments but I am so pissed off about the lying to the bahamian people with the gambling referendum, that I intend to never vote in another referendum under this morally bankrupt administration. Mr Nottage if you have even a semblance of shame or regard for Bahamians you and the prime minister would resign for you have destroyed democracy and the sacred trust between the govt and the bahamian people.
What is obscene is the vision less current govt and equally obscene fnm do nothing for downtown govt's. From east street to the eastern parade is a textbook example of urban blight. Downtown is not 5 % of what it could and should be. Imagine a boardwalk from prince George's warf to the eastern parade, a park environment with benches, and my oh my what view! Imagine high rise condos with a view of the harbour, with residents who live downtown, professionals with disposable income who will demand better restaurants and entertainment. People who walk to work, with little need or desire to drive anywhere. A mini New York atmosphere like in one of their boroughs with all the culture and vibrancy that brings but authentically bahamian at the same time. But no we have xenophobic, myopic leaders who are destroying this country. We need the Chinese with their money, but most of all vision of what downtown should and could be, or we need young Bahamians to rid us of these obscene, tired politicians.
I would like BTC to discontinue the following uncompetitive practice. For several months all calls under my fixed line phone plan were free. In July I received a call from BTC stating that calls to a cable bahamas number would no longer be free and would incur long distance charges. This is clearly uncompetitive behavior aimed at discouraging customers from obtaining fixed line services from Cable. The problem is that with current number portability it is impossible to know if the number you are calling is a cable number or not. I would like this uncompetitive behavior reversed, and if not then another hefty URCA fine.
One can have a monoply but if the rates are regulated and below costs you are losing money and have no incentive to improve your product, in this case prime. As for a permanent monopoly cable has no such thing. That expired several years ago. The low or no profitability associated with basic cable services, along with high capital costs, explains why there has been no current competition offering basic cable. Increased rates would encourage competitors and result in improved services for everyone.
Cable deserves every penny of this increase and more. The cost of prime to the customer has not increased since it began 20 years ago. During these 2 Decades the cost of programming has increased tremendously. How can cable provide a quality product (better channels) etc without the increased revenue to pay for it when costs are increasing and profit margins whittled down to almost nothing on prime?
Mr. Gibson all of your suggestions are intelligently thought through, fair, equitable, and in the interest of the common good. As a result I am quite confident NONE of them will be implemented. Now we can all return to banging our heads against the wall hoping for positive change. The fix is in and has been all along.
